Looks like the scaletrains 53' containers are imminent. I know they gave a sample out at the N scale convention. My question to those who recieved one is, do they fit into the wells of the Kato and Deluxe cars? I have some of the containers on order, and would like to order some more, but only if they fit into existing cars. I don't want to wait too long, as they have some really nice paint schemes that I'm afraid will sell out quickly. Thanks!
The ScaleTrains 53-ft containers fit perfectly in the Kato and DeLuxe Maxi-IV wells. The pins and holes on the ScaleTrains containers even match the Kato containers, so they stack together without any modifications. However, you might want to add magnets to the ScaleTrains container for more secure stacking. Carter
The only 53-ft container chassis I have is the expandable one from Kato. The ScaleTrains container does not fit on it without modifications. Of course, neither does the Kato 53-ft container fit on that chassis without modifications. However, Fox Valley indicated in July that they will be coming out with a chassis to go with their new 53-ft containers. Carter
Got my containers today and an extremely pleased! They look really nice and thankfully they do fit into the Kato and Deluxe cars. ScaleTrains has done a great job with their first N scale offerings. The printing on the complicated refrigerated containers is well done and looks good even under a magnifying glass. I hope to see more schemes in the near future, I'm tempted to replace the fleet.
I thought that you had the N Scale Kits 53' chassis, Carter - if not I will send you examples! The ScaleTrains 53' container that I have nearly fits on the N Scale Kits chassis - but as in the case of the Kato container a little modification is required, in the N Scale Kits chassis' case, the chassis does need a smal;l amount of simple filing. The ScaleTrains 53' containers also fit the N Scale Kits 53' cars - so far the Gunderson 53AP but also the Thrall and NSC cars single car and 3 car consists coming out this Fall.
