Wow! Your layout looks really nice. rocks look great. I'm just going to sit back and watch everything develop as it seems you really know what you are doing.
Scenery looks really nice. What is the trick to your colored filler between the rock castings? As always looking nice
Jim, thats just right out of the box mix with water Woodland scenic form-a-scene plaster. (Sometimes sold as Sculpt-a-mold). Very easy to work with. Sets up in about 30mins, so it gives you plenty of time to shape.
Here's the raised section finished....I think. I may add a rise here or there after I move down more and see how it all blends together. plus I will have to blend it into the divider/backdrop that will be placed here.
Well, I started the middle penisula and ran out of plaster form a scene. So here's it till I can get somemore.
At least I got a good start on the shape. It should be good a hard by the time the next coat is ready....give me something good and solid to work from. And this is the real penisula that I am trying to model taken on my trip in Feb.

Louis, the entire Pinole scene is 16ft long and about 3ft wide. There is another 12 feet through the divider that will be Richmond Yard and an Intermodal Facility.
This is the first coating. After it dries, I'll touch it up with some different shades and highlights. Now this is really fun!!!!

Hello William! I bought the Woodland Scenic earth colors kit and used Yellow Ocher first, spraying the rocks in a random pattern. Then I took the Raw Umber and also sprayed it in a random pattern. After it had all seeped into the casting, I took Burnt Umber and brushed it over everything. All the colors were dilluted with water somewhat. Tomorrow I will see how it looks dried, and highlight/touch up with the dry brush method, and then seal it up with Woodland Scenic Cement. It is really easier then it sounds, and was alot of fun watching the 'rocks' come to life. John Coots sent me some pictures of the rocks on his layout and it inspired me to get some color on mine!
Riiiiight - I'm sure that's what Tiger Woods also says as he sinks his fifth consecutive birdie putt!
While I wait for some more plaster, I decided to cover all the track and get some painting done before the ground foam. The green was done from a spray can, and the earth colors were brushed on.
The earth colors, still wet in these next pictures, will get earth ground foams on them and the green will get green ground foams on it in different sizes.
