Do you want to show off your layout? Like weathering other people's cars? How about telling a story? If the answer was yes to any of the above, then keep reading! (Keep reading anyway, or we'll find you)

I have taken on the job of hosing the first annual Trainboard exchange car. What is it? It will be an HO scale car that is mailed from layout to layout in regular freight service between railroads. We'll pick the car when we figure what the common era is between anyone who is involved.

The only requirements are that you have a camera and access to a layout. You can even use a local club's with their permission. Mailing will be done with Flat Rate boxes, so the cost is the same to anyone. The offer is oepn to all eras, (we'll pick something in the middle of it all, say if we have a split between modern and transition, we'll go 60s-70s era car which is erly-modern late transition, for an example) and layouts in all parts ot the world. Don't back out if you aren't in a popular modelling era, if you really want to play.

If you are interested, then click here to join in the TBX exchange group, and we'll hasggle out the details. Read through the FAQ, the guidlines, sign your name on the dotted line, and join in the set-up so we can get this thing off the ground!

We have a tour currently going on over in N scale following the story of TBX 3401. Check it out for a target example of what Flashwave hopes to bring to the HO Scalers of TrainBoard. :)

(I couldn't find my thread. They pinned it up at the top. Awful thoughtful of them to do that for little ol' me.)
Glad to have ya! Confidentially, I haven't either. But I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express one time.

If you wouldn't mind, drop in on the group's sign up and intro yourself there as well. http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/group.php?do=discuss&discussionid=860

5 on, we're halfway to being able to start this puppy! (though there is no maximum limit)

Alright, I didn't want to do this. I tried to be nice. But I see you leave me no choice.

    It's Draft Time!

A Sound thought, but I also want to at least get enough of a peanut galllery so that we can work out details before the holidays. Actually, I'd love to get the car going before the holidays, since that is Model Railroad Season. Part of me says though to wait and do it on my Birthday, which is Jan 3. A present to me, and just after the holidays.

I like this idea but the only problem is my layout is still on paper for at least two more months. Gotta finish building and prepping the downstairs.

You want it? You can have it.

No, I kid, though regretably life caught up with me, I hit a kind of writer's block on trains, and from top to bottom, this project hit a lot of snags. You might say it's spent it enite time riding the yellows, with everything from layout issues to weather, it's just kinda been a really slow burn, and now things are tied up in New York, we HO sclers sem to have more of a life than the N scalers, I guess. So if you'd like to see another one when you're ready, maybe it's time for someone else's hands. When I get them back, I'll still have the Watash car, hopefully by then with a new interior in it even, that can go around again.

Well it is all understandable. When things get somewhat normal again let me know. I am still game.

    Its... um... IT'S A NECROMONGER!!!

It was happening. And then the car vanished in New Yoro Last person to have it never sent it back, never asked for a return address, nothin'. Shortly after I posted here last month that I'd given up hope on getting them back, I found the gnetleman over on the-guage.net and tried to get in touch. He claimed he could no longer get logged in here and that all of my phone calls were too scratchy to make out... you know, because the REDIAL button doesn't work... or the recurring phone number in the missed call history... if you'll pardon my bitterness. Shortly after I sent him my address to get stuff back on the-gauge, he's vanished there too. Or, is no longer returning my PMs...

    ...I'm not holding my breath...

I;d love to get the Watash back, he's been an inspiration to many of us here. And I do have several TBX dummy engines that could be put into rotation. We'll see. I'll add you to the list though of people if I do get the Watash back... or if Hell freezes over...

It's really sad when people do this kind of thing. When one party can ruin it all, for everyone else.

was this a car or locomotive? Also I assume it was only one of whichever that was passed around from layout to layout.

This is a shame. That is a great idea, but like you say only takes 1 nitwit to screw it up forever. I would have enjoyed seeing it, taking video or pics on my MRR and posting for the group.
A few years ago, I got on an engine in Kremmling CO and headed West for Grand Junction, of course it was "zero-dark-thirty" the inbound crew told us of a Teddy Bear on the engine with a diary.
We looked during the course of the trip at all the crews that had entered into the diary when and where they were from and where Teddy was headed. As well as the instructions on where and when they wanted Teddy returned to the Class. It was very special and kind of heartwarming how these crews opened up to this Grade School Class in Nebraska, about what, when and where Teddy was doing, or going, what was on their train, and of the special places he was headed.
I had not thought of that till I saw this thread. Now I just hope Teddy made it back home.
I still think it is a good idea though.

I tried starting a car exchange on another forum. We would order shipments from a customer / industry on someone else s layout they would spot a car there to receive the order. It would then go through their layout system to off layout. They the package the car up and mail it to who ever ordered the shipment. When received the car was brought onto the new layout run through that modelers layout system to the receiving customer. It was then run back to the box and returned to original road. There was a lot of interest but little participation. Only 3 people got involved so it died

Car. There were two, one was a TBX painted business car lettered for Watash (late member from the forum, if youhadn'tmet him, he was evrything good about the peoplein thishobby, indormative, helpful, zll around good guy) the other was a throway joke car that I wasn't worried about. Model power cannon, ncluded because a few people made the joke of germn cannon cars when I asked for ideas on what to ship.

That is a beautiful story. Wonder if the diarygot archivedsomewhere?
