I sure hope that you will get the chance too. You would not believe the growth in the wine industry as well as the rest of the Grand Valley.

We happened to catch a U.P. work train in DeBeque, CO last weekend. Unfortunately the sun was not in our favor for picture taking.

It is rather odd to see a truck pulling the cars.

No, Way! That one truck pulls all those cars? Never seen that before. Not quite as exciting as an old GP-9 or SD-7 but nonetheless pretty interesting.

You're right Dave. It is really odd looking to see the cars being pulled by a truck.

I didn't get much U.P. action this week. I did capture U.P. 8111 early this moring returning with a load of empty coal hoppers.

Cool!! Got any shots of the coalies headed up the Montrose Branch to Delta, or around the mines along the North Fork?

Agreed! Got any shots of the mines themselves? The loadouts?
8111 would be a convertible SD90MAC... Are all the original H-series 6000HP units off the roster now?

IIRC, all of the SD90MACs were taken off the roster, and last I heard of any running, there were some leased for a while to KCS by EMD Leasing (EMLX). If the 8500 series is ever used again (the original series for the SD90s with the H series prime mover) it most likely will be filled by more SD70MACes. My guess, anyway........but all the 8500s are gone.

Not as of yet. I have been looking for trains between Palisade and DeBeque. Maybe I'll try to head back down toward Montrose here in a couple of weeks. Did you railfan the Montrose area when you lived in G.J? If so do you have any suggestions of good railfanning sites?

    Thanks,

    Ben

I didn't railfan that area, but John Cater did- he used to live in that area around the turn of the century. His handle here is JCater.

Wow, what the media won't do to put the spin on anything remotely resembling a derailment. And I mean anything.

This weekend I was in Glenwood Springs. First I have a few elevated shots of the yard from the tram that takes you up the hill to the Glenwood Caverns:

Now for U.P. close ups of equipment in the yard:
