I was thinking; dangerous I know, but now with Digital 3D Printing you can get just about anything made. However there are exceptions with that take the U50 for an example. Even if you had the Shell and Details printed you still couldn't find the right Chassis and Wheel Set to go with it as it was originally produced. Any thoughts on this?
Concor made a U-50 and keeps saying that they are running it again (at least they have been saying that for the last 8+ years). As soon as one shows up in 3D printing, Concor will probably release theirs (probably won't but they MIGHT...nawww). Not a Concor fan anymore...
I'll have to look since I have one. Of the Old Con Cor that is; the mechanism was Kato back then; thank goodness.
That's probably correct. If there was a Chassis and double truck set up I would ask if one could be printed. But since I haven't found one as yet I'll hold off on my request
Money was tight for me back in the late 70s early 80s and most locos back then were in the $20 range so spending twice that amount for the U50 was a bit much for me but I did it and was I glad I did because it out shined anything else I had at the time. I still have it but haven't used it for some time, guess I'll have to take her for a ride one of these days.
You've got a good point there. Thanks the Truck configuration would be much easier. Thank you for that suggestion.
Yes, they were very good runners with pulling power and were able to work through tight curves too. I think ConCor used the same chassis to make their UP 'Veranda" turbine.
I model the steam era, but after I saw one of these run on the club layout, I decided to purchase the U-50. I bought the UP and SP, but as a B&O modeler, I decided to get undecorated shells from ConCor and do mine as seen above.
In fact, if these were released with dcc and sound, I would buy at least one and swap the shell for my custom B&O shell.
