    I am filling in my layout with details and have plans in my head working all the time, I will post what gets done here. THANKS for checking it out!

    To start, here is my sawmill and a load of logs:

    I conducted some research and find that most of the logs in our area were carried on flat cars with the side stakes. If chains were used, it was one thrown over the center of each bunk.

    Here is the town of Grizzley Flats, this is where the loggers live along with their families. They hope to make this a permanent settlement so put up a church. I notice Walthers came up with a plastic version of this card and wood structure that came as a craftsman kit:

    Thanks for looking and comments are welcome!!

    Older days log trains were what we might look at with horror in these present times. Held on many instances by their sheer downward force. Bunks and chaining came along gradually. My favorite railroad had to run cleanup trains to pick up spilled logs along their various rights of way. And that is not from derailments, but from them simply falling off as the trains rolled along.

    Nice little town!

    Thanks for checking it out, Dale;

    I am adding people at present and just got a brainstorm for adding a small passenger platform, just enough to service the small town, sawmill, and Grizzly Flats.

    I agree, very nice, and it seems like it's been done in a fairly short time.

    Thanks for looking, guys; I started with an empty room on Aug 5, 2014; and you can tell it is at the stage of adding details;

    Here is a rough video of how I planned it out and started building it:

    I always love to see people's layout discussions. It looks great. Your structures look really good too.

    My internet is wonky so I got about as far as you sitting down and your cat needed moving; they always know when you are up to something and want to get in there. he he

    Thanks for looking at the plan and pics, vid; I want to get some more backdrop done but will do one of the flyover type videos in a week or two.

    We have 2 cats and they show up in a video ever so often, cameo appearances at no additional charge!

    Our cats are perfect model railroad pets in that one is too old and chubby to jump and the other only has 1 back leg.

    I'm very jealous of your basement being from the flatland where we never heard of basements! It's a great start, I'm looking forward to seeing more of the layout!

    Thanks, Dale; I always wondered why they don't put basements in those homes, it can't be because of high water table?

    They are pretty standard in Minnesota, it is tough to find a home without one. And in most cases, they shouldn't have one because they are notorious for getting flooded, or at least wet. Fortunately, we live on the top of a big hill.

    Here is a video that shows a lot of my layout, following my S-12 switcher around doing some operations. The speed is a bit fast but I didn't want the video too long...

    Still working on being a movie producer!!:

    When I see the name "Grizzly Flats", I keep thinking I've heard or read of it on another past model railroad.

    That looks great buddy! Your scenery is pretty good. Makes me want to get back on mine.
    you asked about basements down here. Just about everything is on a slab floor any more. If one is built, it's like planning a major undertaking to make it waterproof. The water table isn't high in most places, just close to water.
    im on a limestone bluff where I'm at, my neighbor is putting in a pool right now, they've been hauling out rock for a week. They are now down 6 feet and hit a solid layer. They are having to bring in a special machine to go the last 2 feet.

    My house is on grade on the front, but we had to fill 4 feet on one of the back corners. Interesting country around here.....
