Hello everyone! I live in Abilene, Tx. I grew up in Ohio and have always loved trains. I'm in the process of completing a Mountain/Valley N-Scale kit that will be set in the late 1950's. The B&O and friends will be my line. I love baseball and I grew up in a trailer park so those two things will dominate my little corner of Appalachia. The ballpark will be a late 50's minor league stadium. It looks like what you'd expect an A or AA ballpark might look like back then. In some ways old and run-down, and in other ways trying to keep up with the times. There's still a lot of work to do, but I'm fired up to finish this Spring/Summer. I've literally been on/off with this for nearly 1/3 of my life and what with kids and other things just got sidetracked a lot over the years. Anyhow, it's cool that a place like this exists. Look forward to knowing folks around here.
Great to have you aboard! I've always like seeing what folks come up with for sports facilities on layouts, and certainly look forward to seeing your ballpark.
Scott- Welcome to TrainBoard! There are N scalers a-plenty here, all kinds of varied interest areas. If you have any questions, it's quite likely more than one person will know how to answer. Any chance we can see some layout progress photos? Minor league baseball- Ah, the memories of watching those games or listening on local radio... Many a summer evening knew those sounds at our home.
Thanks for the welcome! I will try to get some progress photos up. Look forward to learning. Just lurking around here today I've seen and read things that have given me such great ideas.
There's still a lot of work to be done - ground cover, trees, buildings, utility, etc...but this is what I've got so far. I still have to work on the dugout, back stop and net area and doing something for the baselines. I'm terrible at this stuff, it's very intimidating, which is part of the reason it's taken me over 11 years to even get this far. I just freeze and stay away for long stretches of time. However, I'm energized and this is the stretch run. I finish in 2012!
Thanks guys. I have a problem with the mini downtown, because I wanted a street scene a la Wrigley, where folks can watch from their apartment, but my city street leads to nowhere. Not sure what to do about that.
Welcome to the forum! I'm new here also. Your layout looks really nice. Maybe add a chain link fence and make it a dead end? Those are pretty common in San Francisco here...just thinking out loud tongue:
I like the dead-end street idea. I could sell it as the shopping/ballpark area of a larger town that's just off scene. The street would be more pedestrian traffic. Maybe some vendors or something. Thanks for the ideas!
