One of our NTrak members was running his this weekend. Beautiful looking/sounding and very nice running loco! The pulling power didn't seem to be in the same league as the Big Boys, but it may be it needs more break-in time (first time out of the box). I think these are going to be VERY popular engines.
Is this run still coming or did it get canceled? It still shows at Walthers website but it is not showing on any of the etailers I checked.
I agree the Walthers/LL Y3's are some of the best running and sounding locomotives that i have. I have 2 and one will have to go back to Walthers because all it does is sit there and start up and then shut down. Even with that engine i still recommend this locomotive. Btw i did do a reset 3 times with no improvement. Dave
The loco's for the next batch have been on their site for over a month, they just haven't officially announced them yet in a flyer so some dealers might have missed it. I had a N&W set aside for myself from the past batch but I gave in and let a customer have it. I can wait for round 2.
I'm hoping that Walthers' experience with the Y3 will show them that well done N scale steam will sell well and prompt them to do more. A new, improved Berkshire perhaps, or something else we haven't had yet, like an N&W A class. There is plenty of steam out there yet to be modelled. Some more typical ATSF engines would be nice too.
A N&W A class would be my favorite. I passed on the new mallets because I have three of the old ones. And I have two Berkshires as well. The Berkshires have a lot of overhang of the cab, which means that if the last driver would be wobbling just a bit, this would cause the cab to rock up and down. Several German steam engines show this effect, but not the Berkshires! Which means they are very precisely built. If there would be a traction tire on the last driver, there would be a chance of a rocking cab. On the other hand, my Spectrum J has a traction tire, and runs well. I am probably overcautious
Looks like I'll pick up two more ATSF road numbers....1790 and 1796... 1790, that's a familiar number... hmmmm
