Oh come on. You know you deserved at least a little of it. You did make it sound like you thought it was actually possible to tell model railroaders what to do... :censored:

The rest of us were just happy for the excuse to be, um, dry about it. :sneaky:

Well,, some modelers do not even have vehicles added to their layout, Mike Confalone comes to mind,,, he has very few vehicles on his great Allagash Railway layout,, if he does they are parked and not in " traveling" mode. He said it takes away from the reality of the layout.
If you watch " What's neat" by Ken Patterson , he had a segment to where they used miniature RC components to make HO scale vehicles drive. I am talking turning,, backing up and driving where ever,, no " track" required. Pretty cool. He also just recently did a video about collections of still pics and videos from the past. In one such video ( HO scale) there was a train running in the video,,but.. there was also a delivery box truck leaving an industry.
Now, I feel as all the animation can be distracting. Ok I realize I might be hated for this comment,, but,, all the junk on N Trak modules just makes me walk by,, I do not even give it a second look. Am I being a snob??,, no,, I just know what I like and what I don't. I don't like all the " extras"

Bring it on,, I have my asbestos suit on..lol

This is what is nice about model railroading. Everybody can do whatever they desire. There is no standard or conformity. Just do what makes you, the individual, happy. Have fun!

Don't look at me. I couldn't agree more. I like to have several parking lots and a traffic light or two. That way the cars that aren't empty and cold, and the trucks that aren't loading or unloading, are perpetually caught by the Merciless Eternal Red Light.

But then my era and locale are rural and sleepy. A place where there really could be nothing moving.

Meh .. I'm going to have countless tourists and their darling little children swimming, riding trains and eating pie - FOREVER FROZEN. The cold never bothered me, anyhow...

Just .. don't look into their eyes. NEVER look into their eyes.

A couple of interesting side notes:
Except for big trucks, a friend of mine once refused to have any vehicles on his layout except Fords. In short, if it wasn't a Kenny, a Pete, or a Mack, it had better be one of Henry's.

Also, since the car system is a German product, you really can't blame them too much for wanting it to run at the speed of the Autobahn.......

Makes perfect sense. What better for a static display than a Found On Road Dead?

I'm of the opposite side of the fence. My attention seems to be drawn to the fact that 90% or more of the vehicles on our club NTrak layout have NEVER moved. They just sit there at the crossings, intersections, and clog the roadways like everyone ran out of fuel at the same time. I planned my module so 98% of the vehicles are parked or unloading. The semi's are placed in such a way that the driver is either on his way to the shipping office, or just climbed back in the cab after closing the trailer doors. All swing doors no roll up doors here. But then again as a kid I had my slot cars and trains together on the same table. Maybe that's it who knows? It all boils down to personal preference. Now I'm not saying I've not seen animation overdone. It sure has. Alot. And then some too. I'd like nothing more than so see a bit of traffic flowing through the small town I'm planning for my home layout. But that "Point of no Return" drop off at the edge my shelf layout will present a challenge. I wouldn't be surprised if someday we will have holograms of vehicles and people moving around our layouts. If you want them to.

I too, have vehicles "frozen" on my highways. To me it gives the illusion of movement (Isn't that what model railroads are --- a grand illusion) -- I think it would look strange to have roads with no vehicles on them. As for animation --- not my thing -- but, to each their own. If that is what you enjoy -- who am I to tell you differently -?

Carry on -- and - have fun, that's what this "hobby is supposed to be about,

Hmm. Knew I would get at least one GM or Mopar guy to bite on that one. Admittedly, I've got more (HO and full size) Ford vehicles than anything else, but I'll allow other brands, and, no, I wouldn't, for example, kick a '55 Nomad out of my garage.

More than half the scale vehicle models available are Fords, so yeah, who doesn't? Fortunately, a few of the model manufacturers follow John Dodge's advice, and, 'Just think of all those Ford owners who will someday want an automobile.'

As for kicking a Nomad in my garage, I wouldn't dream of it. I wouldn't even breathe heavy on it. God forbid that two speed Turboglide POS start bleeding Dexron before anyone even has a chance to answer the classified ad!

By the way, there's a rather long list of American fallen flag automakers, and quite a few of them built admirable vehicles. They, to paraphrase H.L. Mencken, went broke overestimating the American consumer. It isn't a hard thing to do.

Actually a pretty funny series of one liners there, and there's probably a fair amount of truth to them, especially the second one. I've never met an early automatic trans of any make that I liked very well. I'm curious and have to ask, though. What do you drive?

    I drive people crazy.

A Mercedes with a Chrysler engine (a Dodge Magnum) and/or a Mazda. I don't enthusiastically recommend either Mercedes or Fiats; Mazdas are great cars. But if I had my way, I'd have a Hudson for a daily driver.

Not in Charlie Wilson's camp. That said, back when Alfred P. Sloan allowed Pontiac to do things a little differently, GM was not such a wasteland.

RIP Pontiac. I've owned multiple Firebirds and Fieros, and I'd LOVE a Sky/Solstice.
My wife loves her Mazda CX3 though - seems to be the only one in town.

Had a '68 Goat. With very little work, those things could really crank out some HP.

I keep intending to do a post on 'badge engineering' models of autos for more variety--including a Mercury I made of one of those ubiquitous Ford models, and a '49 Pontiac I made from a dull-as-dishwater '50 Chevy. Guess I should get around to that.

Viva la '57 Safari--the nice Nomad!
