Here's another train celeb. For those younger model RR fans who listen to "Heavy Metal" music, Randy Rhoads (the original guitar player for Ozzy Osbourne) was quite a famous guitar player and also a Z-scale modeler before he passed away. One of his best known songs he played with Ozzy was "Crazy Train". http://www.guitarplayer.com/article/randy-rhoads/jan-00/4766
Make it a loop. You could have a duckunder at the 50 yard line on each side, only people will have to crawl under quite a bit of layout to get to the center.
Here is the neil young video on another thread: Neil Young - TrainBoard.com top 10 lists are always so biased. what about Johnny Cash and Charlie Chaplin?
Anyone from Chicago area will remember Fraiser Thomas of Garfield Goose fame had a huge HO layout! Rob
Once, while browsing at a convention in Long Beach, Ca., I actually ran into Gary Coleman at one of the booths. I remember too, going into a hobby shop and seeing some of Gary's "will call" boxes up on the shelf...
Michael Jordan?? Excellent news. Well, our names may not be up on the billboard but each and every one you on Trainboard is a star in his own right. Why not Michael Jordan, Mel Torme and anyone else?
I wrote a newspaper article on celebrity railroaders a few years back. Rod Stewart has been mentioned here already. He was "outed" by the press. He was getting out of his limo at some event and a photographer shot a pic of him as he exited the door...laying on the seat was a copy of Model Railroader. He's been known to go on tour in his younger days with several large steamer trunks that contained materials and tools for his building construction projects that he would work on after his shows, in his hotel room. Even had a spray both with fan in one that had a vent tube to place in the window. While his fans all thought he was out partying every night after the shows, he was actually back in the room working on projects.
He was more than a model railroader. He was also competent as a steam engineer, as he proved in several of his movies. Some of those movies are real treasures for railfans! http://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/any-other-buster-keaton-fans-here.60115/
Yes, he is. He models the modern era in 1:1 scale. Here's a picture of his layout. Real nice scenery!
Jackie Gleason was also interested in model railroading. He visited the Belmont Shore model railroad club (I think, a couple of times). Not sure if he had a model railroad or not. Wolf
I have (and greatly enjoyed) the MR with the article on Rod Stewart's layout. If I recall correctly, the late Alvin Lee of the old Ten Years After band was also a model railroader. He had asked his father for a station kit at around the age of 12 or so (either for Christmas or his birthday; don't remember the details) but received a guitar instead. He acknowledged that the guitar did work out pretty well for him.
I heard that Roger Daltry (The Who fame), Jools Holland (Squeeze fame) and Paul Merton (comedian) are into model railways.
I picked up the new model railroader the other day and found a new article on Rod Stewart's layout, pointing it out to my wife when I got home. First thing out of my 17 year old daughter's mouth: "Who's Rod Stewart?" Man, do I feel OLD!
