I saw that in a video once. The demonstating the integrity of casks used for transporting nuclear waste. Where the cast is dropped from a plane, hit by a train and slammed into a giant concrete block.
That's the block. That's why it's painted like the side of Vince and Larry's heads.

Yup. This seller has been posting these for some time and every time I see one I think grade school project.

"Investment Toys" - that kind of says it all right there.

And here I thought a single Bachmann HO Scale boxcar for $25 at an "antique co-op" in the Buffalo area couldn't be beaten. The interwebs win again...

Also duly noted: this thread has hit Page 300...

Not specific to any individual items... Postal Service rates go up again on 21 January 2018. It doesn't look like too big of a hit...

    http://about.usps.com/news/national-releases/2017/pr17_062.htm

(TL,DR: Flat rate Priority Mail boxes/envelopes go up five cents, first ounce First Class goes up one cent, extra ounce First Class doesn't change.)

eBay will of course "adjust" its rates accordingly. Hopefully the discounts they offer won't be reduced by too much.

Now I get a "second chance offer" from a seller?! I bid on an item, and was the only bidder until the last few seconds. Then I was outbid. So, I lost, right? But, overnight, I get a "second chance offer" from the seller through eBay to "Buy it now" for my bid price. I bought it.

But, I am wondering about this "second chance offer" business that I had never seen eBay do before.

It seems like this provides a way for a seller to put in a "shill" bid to drive-up the price when he has 1 bid sitting on an item for a while and wants more. If he puts in a bid that is too high, he "wins" instead of selling the item, but can he just cancel that sale and offer the real bidder this "second chance" at the value he now knows the real bidder is willing to pay? That would be a big boon to sellers, who could start reaping the max value the highest bidder is willing to pay, instead of just the highest value the second-highest bidder is willing to pay plus the "bid increment".

Anybody here have any insights on this "second chance" practice?

It has been in place for many years now. But I do not trust it. Supposedly the winning bidder backs out, (under their rules for use), then the seller is allowed to offer it to the second highest bidder. Although many will swear left and right, not possible, one cannot but help to think of a 'shill' process. It DID happen in the past and supposedly they have measures in place to prevent it. Sorry. I am NOT naive'. I have seen enough to believe it does still happen. I have followed that site since it's very earliest days and been a member/user for twenty years now. Have seen far too much, to believe all that I am told by them!

I am guessing that type of multi-car listing has something to do with eBay's pricing policy for listings. I have seem quite a few in the last year. never bought from one, though.

.... and at a price of $15.95 Ea for common old freight cars with Rapido couplers? What a waste of bandwidth.

I should quit my job and be a full time detailer. I know it's super detailed but over $1k??? (11 bids as of now) It's HO so I would imagine the detailing would be easier to do than on an N-scale model.

I am rubbing my eyes looking at this, completely astonished that people see $1,000+ of value there and have it to spend.

I would agree the price is way overboard. But the draw is that Utah Belt is a world renowned model RR. Many magazine articles through the years. A chance to own one of his items may be what is driving bids here.
