Agree, I rode it four times 1945-1947, lovely comfortable experience. Probably would buy it just to have it on the Memorabilia Shelf. (though I wouldn't tell them that the trip in '45 SP assigned a GS-4 War Baby that I watched separate from the train and get watered in El Paso.....Lovely memory!)
You did say "no one" plus you opened the door to the possibility of other manufacturers when you mentioned Fox Valley.
That looks rewarding! If the manufacturers don't make the scheme, it sure is fun to paint it oneself!
I really enjoy building my own by whatever means necessary. Years ago I created my own Sunset Limited and so far nobody has brought out that train. I upgraded it a few times as new stuff like accurate car sides became available. So I get to be the only kid on the block with one of those. If Kato ever released that train I would still buy it. I am not above upgrading again. Right now I am working on the 1942 Morning Hiawatha using kits from GHQ even though Fox Valley has done many of the same cars. Have to maintain my modeling abilities.
You've got some good trains there, Russell! I was drooling over your Texas Special a couple of years ago when you ran it at OKC. Hopefully Roberto can find some time to fit in a new production of his sides soon!
Thank you!! Here ya go: (Sorry for the crummy photos - I was still figuring out my camera) The second photo is an in progress shot -- lettering had yet to be applied. I really need to take new photos. Regards, Wolf
There's gotta be a UP yellow Hiawatha in the tube somewhere..........They spent a lot on the tooling for the Milwaukee specific cars, and they can't use it for any other railroad, so the yellow version would be the only option to help recover the costs. But it'll probably be a ways out........they'll wait for the "new" to burn off the '52 paint scheme first. A NCL would be nice.
Nice to see this thread revived. Just yesterday I was looking at a couple of my Burlington Route books. In Volume one of the Morning Sun series, there is a very rare photo of an ABA E5 set leading the Morning Zephyr in 1959. E5's were typically ran as A or AB, rarely ABA. This would be the 1947 Twin Cities Zephyr consist that I requested early in this thread. The caption indicated that in addition to the standard seven car consist (baggage/café, four dome coaches, diner and dome/parlor/observation) this particular train included three additional flat top coaches. C'mon Kato, this is a great opportunity! The dome coaches and diner from the original Kato corrugated cars used this train's prototype. The E5 A units are a done deal. I already have flat top coach adders from the Silver Streak Zephyr sets. Just need to tool an E5B, baggage café and dome/parlor/observation. Everybody knows that a dome heavy Zephyr will sell like hot cakes. Let's go!
Even though I do HO scale, I think that one would be pretty cool. I am a big fan of the early articulated streamliners, so my only hope for getting them is brass or ConCor. I wonder what the market is like for those kind of trains? It might just be a “novelty purchase” for some people, since they are a bit of a limited prototype.
You might be surprised, Kato actually had a poll asking if a TA powered Rocket was something that people wanted
And the numbers were similar in regards to total votes as the poll that was held about the Dreyfuss hudson
I see you went with the 10-6 Sleeper on the rear. Nice. A number of years ago, there was a guy on here who had done a custom obs car with the boattail end. It was a corrugated car. Highly detailed. VERY sharp. I'll have to try and find that...thnx for the post
Yeah, I hear that. I was picking up the Intermoumtain/Walthers/Rapidio NP cars and F7’s and then Intermountain went and changed the NP color scheme mid stream so now nothing mathes. They CLAIM they will replace eveyone’s original cars when they are rerun. Hmmm... have not seen any flying pigs recently. They have been slow enough releasing cars and none have even tried any of the dome cars yet, I doubt I’ll be around before they finish the set let alone re-issue any cars.
Kato did have a streetcar poll posted on their site about a year and a half ago, so there may be something the pipeline by now.
