Hi all, After having build quite some 'Thrall' steel coal gons for my coal train from PU casted copies of a styrene model, I have now a 3d printable copy. I decided to have the car body as 5 seperate parts, which are all printed in the same orientation to minimise printing artifacts. This way of printing seems to give a much better printing result. Designed in Sketchup as a 'kit'. Printed by shapeways in 'Smoothest Fine Detail Plastic'. The car body shell is printed as a 5 parts 'kit' on a sprue. Either MTL, Full Throttle, or AZL roller bearing trucks with coupler will fit under the car body. Detail parts are designed by me and professionally etched by http://www.ppdltd.com/ . White decals are self designed using 'Open Office Draw' and printed by http://www.decalwinkel.nl/ (Decal winkel is an online print shop in the Netherlands). The PSCX 486, which is shown in the picture, has no wethering yet. It has just a satin clear coat to protect the decals. 5 parts on a sprue assembled and primed
Very nice. Is this something you will make available commercially? Not something on my immediate ToDo list but eventually I would like to model a Fayette Power train. (FPPX and LCRX gons hauling coal between PRB and La Grange, TX)
Very nice models and usefulll information about suppliers of decal pronting and photo-ething services.
Hi Doug, I am not planning a web shop... Main reason for me to share the info here is to encourage others, since this is also the way I came to scratch building and kit bashing. Car body can be made available trough Shapeways. For etched detail parts I might be able to help you somehow. /Frank Verstuurd vanaf mijn ANE-LX1 met Tapatalk
No worries, if that's not your intention that's fine. Typically pretty easy to offer things up in Shapeways so that's why I asked. But the etching would be the real gem, and I realize that would be a pain to do and distribute. Like I said, I'm not a customer at the moment so certainly won't protest. lol
Nice, great improvement over the first version printed in one go. Make those Shapeways parts available, please.
