A pitty you live so far away. Your layout would be a welcome addition for our large modelrailroad exhibitions!

Thank you Thieu! The feeling is mutual. It would have been really wonderful to be a part of a larger exhibit and have that in-person interaction with fellow enthusiasts. This is a very rare and niche hobby in India and though there are some brilliant model railroaders in the country, they are so scattered that even we don't meet more than once every 2 or 3 years! If there is anything that I truly miss here is that part of the hobby - association.

I added the additional bits to the factory after the initial 'bashing.' Mostly fiber foliage for the climbers, vines and bushes; and more shades of brown and green; some rusted chain link fence and a tree.

So I didn't mention this before - I used Deluxe Materials Scenic Rust for the weathering and I really like how it turned out - anyone else used this product before?

Also, I am particularly happy about how this new tree turned out. I can finally say that I have a professional quality tree on my layout, and it turned out to be a pretty easy job in the end. I was thinking of making an instruction video for really cool N Scale trees, do you guys think that there will be takers for that?

By the way, a detailed post is there in my blog.

Thank you Ken! I am so glad that you are enjoying my work. :)

The firm I work for is headquartered in San Francisco and I might visit there in the coming years, so meeting is actually very much on the cards. :) I was there last November and spent a good amount of time in Golden State Model Railroad club and CSRM - you can find those videos in my YouTube Channel (Link in signature).

Anyone who'd disagree has spent no time enjoying Kaustav's work. So much is packed into that mini-empire... Wow.

You are very welcome, and thank you! I'm working on my first layout, your thread on this layout is very inspiring. I especially like how you scratch build everything and use materials that are easy to aquire and craft with, and make it look awesome.

Well, I thought of posting this over the weekend, but the redirection issue prevented me from doing it.

Here is a quick layout tour and switching ops session in Wrightsville Port from two weeks ago. This is the first time I actually talked about the layout in a video, so it was fun! Hopefully you like the video and the slow speed operation.

I have a series of videos planned - this weekend it will be about how I maintain my track and locos and some special maintenance items that I took up over the years. Then after it is about maintaining N Scale diesel locos. After that many more are planned for model trees, weathering and what not - so please feel free to subscribe.

I recommend watching in 1080p at least if not 4K to see some of the fine detailing that I added in the recent months.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments! I am glad that you all liked the video.

So if you are interested to know how I do it, here is the next episode. Frankly, it's not easy to maintain this layout for it's unique features even though it falls within a small layout category, and the heavy weather here in India never helps. But over the years, I unlocked the secrets of fine tuning the age old 'best practices' to make it work in my favour. The next one will be about the flip side of the maintenance, i.e. cleaning diesel locomotives. Please feel free to subscribe to the channel so that you can receive alerts of the new releases.

    Thanks again for looking!

Like the scale speeds you run. Just shows how good N scale can run.

Here is the last one on my maintenance series - cleaning the wheels and the truck mechanism. Now that the videos on the 'janitor jobs' are done, time for me to focus on some real modelling... Phew!

One thing that I have found is that if all your rolling stock had metal wheels then you will have less need to clean, the Micro Trains plastic wheels are made with an engineering plastic that emits an oil which collects dirt I can go a long time between cleaning and I use the same track cleaning tools you use, as for body mount versus truck mounted coupler I found body mount to be much better and more reliable, especially if the consist is fairly heavy. impressive layout even more so when I see the location geographically I model in N scale narrow gauge, mainly because I liked the East African railroads during my 5 years of working in that area. Z scale track come very close to cape gauge 42 inch in n-scale

Thank you Garth. Yes, metal wheels all around! I have stopped using plastic wheels all together. Not just the clean tracks, it markedly improves performance as well. Would you believe some of those rolling stocks are 15 year old Bachmann?

Nn3 sounds fabulous. Where can I find the build thread or your layout's photos?

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and spent a good amount of money buying trains in the Black Friday Sale!

I know it's a bit delayed, but as promised, here is my video of making N Scale trees using Woodland Scenics Armature:

Hope this is helpful. I am revamping the entire scenery for Wrightsville Port and trees are my primary focus, so there will be a few more videos on different techniques of making trees. Subscribe to the channel to stay tuned.
