That's really nice George. That body shell is metal, right? It probably pulls like a mule. It's another Arnold model that I'd seen only in catalog pages until seeing them here.

I have one that does that. Kind of an ugly yellow green with a brown roof. I just looked at it and couldn't find a name on it anywhere. Sorry.

I have a picture posted of it a little earlier in the thread. It's catalog number 0639.

EDIT: Oops, I assumed it was the 0639 Rapido engine house because it has automatic doors too although I thought they automatically opened when a loco approached. Being there is no triggering device to do that (like with the old Revell HO engine house), the door automatically closing after the loco enters makes more sense.

This Rapido does have foam buttons supplied that are to be mounted (I haven't built it yet) at the rear of the house for the locos to push and that probably triggers the doors to close.

Wow this thread goes back a ways to 2011.
I looked through it to see if I had posted
    anything.

Back in the early 1980s when I started in N scale, Arnold had quite a bit of items available. I was a fan of Rio Grande and they had two items I picked up for about $30 a piece. The first was a GP30 in the billboard style Rio Grande. It was a cantakerously loud 'growler' with those brass gears and seemingly huge wheels. It ran fairly well... but not as well as the Minitrix F units and ConCor Kato PAs I had. Some time later I picked up their Rio Grande S2s... two numbers 107 & 119... which ran better than the GP30 (quieter too). They had a tendency to pick up anything between the rails and clog up the brass gears... ultimately causing axles to fail. I got rid of the GP30 at a swap meet but kept the 2 S2s which I repaired using NWSL axles. Now that Atlas has new S2s... the Rapidos are background fillers until I figure out if I want to convert them to DCC.

PS... I don't like the spring Rapido used as a universal from the motor the gear tower... so unless there is a fix for that...not likely a DCC candidate.

I like your layout, Rich. It captures the atmosphere of many small, rural towns everywhere.

Thanks Doug for the compliments on the layout. That was my goal when creating the layout, since I'm not able to choose one prototype to model. My biggest problem is, I've not met a railroad I don't like and it shows by my collection of locomotives and rolling stock. :) Two weeks ago the P&LE was serving the industries of Long Valley, last week it was the Western Maryland and this week it's Conrail. Yes time distortion tends to take place in Long Valley as well. :ROFLMAO:

Hehe, I'm the same way. Years ago, I was at a train show and I bought a couple of locos from guy and he asked me what I model, probably expecting an answer like, "I model the Milwaukee Road between Austin and Taopi in March of 1965" or something like that. I just said, "Trains" and he looked at me quizzically. I explained.

I buy anything appealing to me. I mean, who could turn down a like new Rivarossi 4014 Big Boy for 120 bucks (this was a few years ago) regardless of what railroad or era you model?

I have a crane and boom caboose manufactured by Arnold Revell. Got them from E-Bay for a really good price. Also have kits for another crane and boom caboose manufactured by Dimi that are ready for paint. The only thing I need to do is buy some trucks for the Dimi units.

Wow, are you ever gonna have fun detailing the Dimi unit. Each gear, each steam engine element, and the pulleys and cable. So many different colors and shades. Looking forward to what you create. It's gonna be a piece of art, though it may be a few years. (y)

Yep, a solid zinc-alloy casting. I bought it new in the early 1970s, and have repainted it quite a few times.

I'd have said "pulls like an ox", but mule is good too! Sounds like a coffee-grinder though (always did)!

Perfectly written Hytec! Yep, these are GREAT kits and the Brownhoist crane was a common ptototype found on a bunch or roads. Many years ago I built both the crane and work caboose and painted them in L&NE. You'll indeed love building these Joe.

:) It's funny that you mention that because as I wrote it, I thought that another animal was a better fit, but couldn't think of it. My aging brain needs some new memory chips I think.

I have a few Arnold Euro locomotives. The two shown here are newer Hornby era ones I picked up on "closeout".

The "Porsche" liveried one is a DB Class 152. It had problems out of the box. Somewhere on the PCB there was a bad trace or something. When I went to add the decoder in, I ended up just running wires directly from the socket pins to obvious traces leading to the motor, bypassing whatever issues there were.

The red one is a DR Class 252, which later became DB Class 156. These were modern, East German locomotives designed right before East Germany ceased to be (Oct 1990). IIRC the deliveries actually happened after the countries merged but the East German railway, Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) continued as a separate legal entity up until 1994. Because the DR railway company now had access to western locomotives and had to work with DB, the West German railway company, they only ended up with 4 of these, which were later repainted in DB livery, and then later sold to the private railway MEG.

All neat locos. I recently got a Rapido V 200 in an auction and I have now restored the striping on it and painted the two smaller vents on the sides, silver. I have never seen a photo of a prototype without these being silver. They were red. "V 200 103" on the sides above the DB emblem. Both headlight bulbs were burnt out and so, I have temporarily soldered in some grain-of-wheat bulbs until I can find some Rapido 0793 bulbs. Picture:
