Just wondering if anyone has tried the Tangent 36" metal wheel sets in Micro-Train trucks. The FVM ones for MT trucks are .540 inches. Tangent's are .537 inches. Seem just a tad short, was wondering if anyone has tried them and how they roll. Thanks
I haven't tried Tangent wheels, but the BLMA metal wheels were also made at slightly narrower axle lengths (.537" or .538") and they work just fine. In fact, that was intentional to make them more free-rolling in nature.
The 36” wheels are too big and will not work, they need to be 33” with axles in the .537 to .540 range. The Intermountain #60052 and #60072 are correct for Micro Trains trucks. In the past BLMA and Fox Valley also had quality replacement wheels. Until their factories get up to speed there will be a shortage of 33” wheels with .540 axles. The current “trade war” with China doesn’t help modelers in price as well.
I used some of the Tangent 36”x.537 wheels on some tank cars with MT trucks. They look great and roll extremely well. I was very happy with them.
I have used four packs of the 36" Tangent wheels in MT trucks already. They perform well and look fantastic (they are identical to the BLMA 100 truck wheels).
Having used them on several different types of cars, I can tell you they work just fine. Worst case scenario you have to use a small bolster shim above the truck. I have not had to do this on any Tangent equipped cars yet.
