I don't think that would work we need something that could be added to a cast model like in Kurt's photo but not as bulky. I use the model to show you the size of the wheel to scale here is a Netfabb render of another MOW crane I did it shows were the wheels would go if metal it would have to sit on a non-power track to keep from shorting out the track! I'm going to try printing some wheel Metal would be cool But would need some to try out . How much in cost would it be for about 4 set of four?

OK, I think I see. The axles would go through the holes bridging across the two verticals? With the wheels on the inside of the vertical supports? Because they are not intended as functional wheels and were to be machined from brass, they could be just machined as steps not all focused on the normal NMRA suggested standard of a 3 degree tread taper and could also be narrower tread than normal Z wheels as they would look badly out of proportion if using the normal width. And if printed successfully (I think they could be) some of that taper detail and such could be kept. If that's true, would the wheels then be held inside the frame with the axle slid through the holes to assemble? And about a .010" or .015" SS or music wire axle? I am thinking a wheel at .063" diameter x .03 tread width and then .078" diameter x .012" thick flange with a .010" through hole. This could also sit on live track as the wheels would be non-conductive. And if they needed to be machined, maybe the same idea but in Delrin instead of brass for the non-conductive feature.

If all of this seems correct why don't you confirm the actual dimensions you would like to have and let me try printing a few. I could send them to you and you could decide what they're worth rather than me giving you a price that may not work for you. It would be good if you could at least cover the one price USPS shipping. I like to help out when I can.

I had the printer running some of my other parts so instead of guessing about it I went ahead and drew up a wheel as described and sliced it to print. I'll start it as soon as this one is done. Even if you guys can't use them I will at some point. That's assuming they come out OK which I feel pretty certain they will.

OK, the test pieces printed the shape well. The holes were hand opened with a .010" drill so will not be perfectly aligned but may be usable as they are. They will suffice as samples to determine if they're the right idea and may in fact be adequate as they are especially if to be used in a static application. If the design proves to be what's desired the hole can be fixtured to run truer but that wasn't the point of this exercise. Also, if the hole is an issue, while it could be fixtured to be very true, at that point it may be more practical to just machine them. The effort to fixture the resin parts would not be required as the machining process would have those holes true by default.

As far as costs, one option would be to just furnish the printed wheels without the hole drilled, just a center printed in place, and leave the drilling to the user. The part printed, washed, and post cured, ready to use except for the hole, would be pretty inexpensive. A group of 16 like that could be done for about $10 for the lot. On the other hand, machined brass or delrin wheels could be done for about $2 each in a lot of 16. Axles would be the user's supply and would be cut from the .010" wire of their choice. I could furnish enough music wire (6"?) to cut your own for $1 for the lot.

If there's interest in seeing these test prints send me a PM with a shipping address. Cost could be up to whoever receives them, whatever they think the value is between zero and infinity ;), if they are even usable, but covering the shipping cost would be appreciated.

I've finally finished the display base for my tug boat.
I worked with Busch Aqua in the past to make ponds but it's the first time I'm using it in order to recreate some movement on the water.

    Hi everyone.
Recently, I got my CAD software working again (finally!) and I just returned to work on my new projects.
I've been working on this truck. Russian army truck URAL-4320 with radio box.

    Hi everyone.
Got my URAL-4320 finally materialized. These are the first resin copies. I gave them a soft primer coat and now I'm going to start painting.
I'm very happy with these. Turned really good. Better than I was expecting.

    Thanks, Pawel!
I just made this army radio/command box version so far. But it can be converted into many versions. I was wondering about making the AC-40 fire truck too. Do you have any other ideia for convertion using its chassis and cab?

    My Euro trucks arrived today!
I'm trully amazed with their detail.
Two european classic trucks, Volvo FB88 (with canvas detachable) and Volvo N10. I recall them very well from my childhood.
I gave them a primer coat to enhance the tiny details.

I think URAL 375D is almost the same (mainly different engine)...

I would like to have more regular version:

    Hi everyone.
Being busy these days. Modeling is somewhat slower. Recently, I just had time to finish these school buses. Hope you like.

    Joao,

Those school buses look great! Where did you get the street lamps and the stop light from?
