My S2 switcher kit is finished. I laser cut window glazing and light pipes, and put a TCS M2 dcc decoder in it. I painted inside the cab industrial green, and added an engineer, and the Northern Pacific's signiture Steam Bell that all their diesel switchers were outfit is from an N Scale locomotive. The depot is also a scratchbuilt to represent the NP Central Ave South passenger depot in Superior WI.
A beautiful loco for sure and i just love the interior lighting! I have an old Marklin steam engine with lighting in the cab, but it is so dim it is useless, so I have ordered an LED light for the cab from HTM. Seeing yours lit up like that really made my day.
Looks outstanding! nice primer job. If you still haveing trouble on curves I had to use thinner wire so the one truck have better movement! just a thought!
But ..... it's running backwards ..... It's a beautiful work of art with the usual Robert Ray upgrades and extra details
That came out really nice Robert! Love the cab interior light and engineer. How did you get such a great finish on the brass shell?
The cab is only lit running backwards, and the headlight lit running forwards, so for the video running example I ran backwards.
I used the pointy rubber abrasive bit in my dremel to take down the build lines and polish it. I felt it was worth spending extra time and patience, and hold back on my eagerness to attach the grab irons and handrails till I was really happy with the shell finish. Spent about 2 hours broken into several sessions of look over the shell, do a little polishing, come back to it later, look it over and polish the worse spots, repeat. I only wish my painting and decalling skills were better. I got one of the decal stripes slightly crooked, and a smear of black paint on another while doing touchups, but decided to leave well enough alone.
If anyone is a glutton for punishment, here's a S2 that M&StL retrofitted with the same AAR-B trucks with plain journal bearings used on their RS-1's https://donsdepot.donrossgroup.net/dr1002/js231.jpg Sent from my LM-X410(FG) using Tapatalk
M&StL was also a fan of the steam bells on early switchers/roadswitchers Sent from my LM-X410(FG) using Tapatalk
FYI, I am on my way to see Dr. Freud for treatment for my S2 envy. Also, I did catch the bell on CNW. From my view, it blended some with other grays in the B/W pic.
And here another S2...eh, actually S4: SP 1474 in "tiger stripes". Just noticed some days ago the decals offered by Rudy are not for ans S2, but S4. So what's the difference? Actually just the trucks, S2 has Alco trucks, S4 AAR. Good that Rudy offers AAR trucks, too for, the SW1200. Therefore quickly a new type created and Rudy can increase his portfolio ;-)
True for early S4's only. Later S4's had different cab windows. Note the "rounded" corners and gaskets vs the "squared" corners and steel frames on the S2/early S4 http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1815598 http://espee.railfan.net/nonindex/s02_photos/1777_sp-s2-brian_paul_ehni.jpg Sent from my LM-X410(FG) using Tapatalk
I agree with your observation, but for me that's in tolerance of Z gauge like "the couplers are too big" or "the shell is 0.5mm too wide" (which it actually is). I like accurate, prototypical models as far as practical, so in this case I really don't care, happy to see those creations from Rudy, keep them coming!
