Yeah it was a bit pricey but I have been looking for these for a while now. Saw them and jumped on them before anyone else could. The LHS hadn’t even put them in inventory yet.
Thank you to everyone that has given my Model Railroad builds a look see. Here is the newest one as of this morning. Such an awesome community of people!
HO Walthers Mainline Ace. Found a DCC Sound loco that fit my price range, and I don't really miss the details. I ended up using the $100 I saved from not buying a Genesis towards a DCC Starter set.
I built the same kit about 15 year ago. I don't recall having any issues with the head-house that goes on top of the silo's. I did brush paint silver on the corrugated roofs in the direction of the corrugations and it improved the look. IMO, the most important and challenging part was to assemble the silo's and get rid of the seam where the major parts joined. I joined the parts by "painting" on Tanex 7R from the inside, which welded the parts. Tanex is no longer available but there are other weld adhesives available to use instead these days. I liked it because in the past when gluing together major wall panels, it was hard to hold them while the glue set up and they would often start coming apart when waiitng for them to bond. With the weld, the parts bond together quickly making building assembly much easier. I used Squadron Green putty to fill the seams and wet sanded them to get a very smooth finish, which totally hid them. Then I spray painted the structure to get an even white finish. I haven't weather it yet.
Ready to Roll Athearn Maersk Sealand SD40, pretty happy with the quality given the lower pricepoint. Matches my Lego Maersk pretty well.
Purchased MTH BNSF Classic Warbonnet Dash-9 Protosound 3. When we first purchased...it was defective... but MTH FIXED IT AND RETURNED IT GOOD AS NEW! Attached are photos of my 9yr ever so carefully removing the protective foam. He's our number one model railroad fan. We outlined and built our layout together. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
After seeing these I could not resist getting at least one! Tangent B&O I-18 Caboose Model Rick Jesionowski
Got a pair of Wabash (Ex Ann Arbor) FA-2's, was hoping to get my Ann Arbor ones, but they won't be here till next week. Rick Jesionowski
I have been on a little bit of a buying spree lately. As part of my retirement I put aside some money to purchase some woo woo woo that had been on my wishlist for many years. I retired last fall and slowly started fulfilling my goals. One was to get a couple of New York Ontario & Western diesels locos. Took a little time but I got them. Stewart sets of FT locos and F3 locos. Only the A units are powered. FTA on the left F3A on the right. Here are a couple more shots of the F3 locos And the FT locos I have a couple of more acquisitions I will post later.
If you’re modeling the early 1970’s, you just can’t do without an infamous LaSalle & Bureau County “stolen” boxcar! Picked this up on that auction site. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So last week I burned a grand into my credit card. I have structure kits and scratch build materials coming from Northeast Lumber, Tichy, Carolina Craftsman, KC Workshops, and Walthers. This should keep me going for awhile.
OOH! Scary! But sure easy enough to do and when you divide it over the length of time all these projects are going to keep you busy, it doesn't look so bad at all. Have fun.
Vehicles are an important part of setting the time period on a scrolling era layout and I like them, so I've wound up with a fairly large collection. When the stimulus check came, I skimmed off the top and ordered some vehicles I've had my eye on for a while. The first order of four Oxford vehicles arrived yesterday; a '61 Cadillac, a '54 Pontiac, a '57 Doge Sweptline (The only pickup truck ever built with tailfins. Like their '58 Edsel, I already have more of them (2) than would occur naturally.) and a '63 Corvair. Stay tuned. More to come.
They are nice models, by my standards at least. There is quite a good selection available ranging from mid 30s vintage to the late 60's, and the price is also reasonable.
