    Maxi IV Bolsters!

I wanted to highlight this one item.

The end and articulating bolsters are cast in white metal, drilled out and tapped for a 00-90 screw(included). The white metal is 100% lead free. The master was designed with the AZL coupler-truck in mind. Some people may prefer a different truck, but it may not fit correctly. I plan on offering AZL trucks/coupler-trucks with the kit and of course, the RTR models. Please do not be mad at me if you prefer a different truck.

The end bolsters were designed to fit easily inside the pocket that is created after bending the ends. Once the ends are soldered to the main wellcar body, the bolster just drops in, making sure it is standing 90 degrees verticle a drop of CA (Superglue) will set it in place. The articulating bolsters are easier to attach. Just insert into correct pocket and CA it in place. I say to set it into the correct pocket as one is designed to ride on top of the other therefore the bottom pocket gets the bolster. The articulating bolster comes with a hole drilled thru. For my own Maxi IV I put a dab of Squadron White Putty in the top of the hole and filed it flush once dry. Not too much putty as the bolster screw might push it out when you attach the trucks after airbrushing and decaling.

Anyways, Once I create the photo build of the Maxi IV, I will talk about all the pros and cons of building this kit. It is fun and actually doesn't take very long to build. Just need a hot soldering iron(about a 40 watt), a small amount of flux, and some silver bearing solder. The rest is glue, paint and decals.

For those of you who want to try your hand at the kit, they will be available soon. Just waiting on the packages to get here from home.

    Stay tuned for more updates.

    A long time coming!

My adventure in Maxi IV's is nearing its 2 year mark. As that mark approaches I can actually say the end is near. For an update I have assembled a limited quantity of these Maxi IV's, painted them in TTX yellow and am now working on the decals. It's a slow process with multiple parts and sequences to completion.

It's funny that when I dreamt this up to make Maxi IV's from etched metal I never took into account as to how much would actually go into building these in mass. You learn quick to "make things simpler in the future", but no matter how many times you tell yourself that the detail keeps gaining in complexity.

Shamoo, your wait is nearing its end. The Maxi IV's are nearing completion.

    More to come....

For a recent question on How To assemble the kit.

Kits were pre-bent if I recall. The well car end are marked as to location on bottom. See below photo showing where markings are located and which parts go to which well car, A, B or C. All other parts are Universal.

    MAXI IV Details.JPG

Note, the "B" car has the Brake Wheel. The "A" car does not have the brake wheel.

If anyone has questions please post them here or send me a message.

I had always intended to do more than one run. There are about 30 units at about 45% completion.
All of the bending is near completion. Soldering, painting, decaling and assembly is all that's left.
Don't be fooled, the remaining 55% is not a piece of cake and that's probably why the run is hovering at 45%.
I do have plans to complete them and most likely by mid next year.
I recently cast what may be enough white metal parts to complete the run.
The coupler trucks are stocked. Foam and boxes are the last issue. My original foam cutting source no longer exists.
Right now I am working on some art work for a variety of modern intermodal items.
    I'll leave it at that.

    Thanks for enquiring!

Oh, you're talking completed models. I was wondering if you maybe sold the frets and related parts as a kit. Now, of course I would love to have a finished model no doubt. The Maxi-IV is top of list of Intermodal I would like to have....TTX and Circle-logo BNSF for sure. I would also probably pick up one BNSF swoosh, but I would buy multiples of the first two if they were available and assuming I have the funds. Anyway, I'm in no rush, but I'll look forward if and when you get them rolling again. I appreciate what you do for the hobby, and especially some of the parts you've hooked me up with like the drawbars.

Looking great! I did some 3D printed one but as you know pretty light weight! It would be great to get two set if there in a set of four! if and when you do decide to sell them as a kit or find out the price completed! Outstanding work and looking pieces!

Maybe 'printing' in brass like z makers sw1200, would work for these cars.
