Well we are running out of track of the month in February. Thank goodness, without snowmobiles here in Central Illinois, winter is cold and boring! I'm looking forward to March and April. Saturday: You guessed it, dealership. Sunday: More work on the CTC panel and station. I worked on it yesterday, my "Saturday" and made some good progress. I hope to finish the wood cutting and gluing bits in time for warmer weather so I can sand, stain and seal it. It will also be nice to run the layout again as well. No shows for it scheduled yet, maybe next year. So how about you? What do you have planned this weekend? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Monday the 24th to see how we all did. Well let's see. Quiet day at work here so I hope to get quite a bit accomplished today for a project we have due early next week. That way I can do some modeling over the weekend in lieu of taking home office work. Also have a "honey-do" project which shouldn't take too long. Anyway, assuming all goes well, more time spent on bridge building. Along w/ some miscellaneous scenery tasks at the layout. Hope all have a great and peaceful weekend.
Saturday: -- Looks like rain -- so..... I will continue with my friends E8's -- the stripe decals are really kicking my behind. I suspect it is because they are a bit thicker then usual (For Micro Scale) and -- I think, they are a little old. Kind of brittle, but, not bad. Well, looking at things that need to be done and I think I will start out with trying to finish up the building lights I started. While I'm doing that, it will be a good time to reattach some of the roof top details and fix some of the building signs. If I make it through that, then I will see about getting the retaining wall by the bridge finished and add a few more details to the construction site. If I actually make it through all of that, I'm not sure where I will turn. Hope everyone has a great and productive weekend!!!
Thanks to mandatory training my weekend started early. Thursday through Sunday this week. I’m gonna push through these miserable structures and get some work done on the module scenery. I need to paint the fascia as well then install the UP5 panels as well as the blue points. I’m quickly running out of time.
Working on the station kit this weekend. I'm going to take advantage of what's supposed to be a nice weekend and the arrival of my new dial indicator to get out in the garage and do some machining including finishing the platform milling fixture and milling the surface of the platform. Also working through painting the brick walls. That's looking a little scary right now but I'll reserve judgement until I've done all the steps. If I have to, it should be fairly easy to abort the mission until I get to applying the drywall mud "mortar".
I really like the look of those brick walls, how did you get that effect? I want that look on my brick roundhouse. Here is my last update, so I will be working on my Lester Turntable and Roundhouse some more this weekend. This weekend I am rebuilding the turntable arch, and adding pit rails, and on the roundhouse adding the boiler room annex to the rear right side:
Picked up a Dremel 7300. Cordless, for those times when a power cord is just a bit of an annoyance. Will be giving it a try, as I do some handrails on a critter shell this weekend.
yes, good brick job. last week was weird. rains followed by more rains... I think my brain got water logged. anyway, earlier today, I cut out window and door openings. did a small porch awning section yesterday.
Won't get much done this weekend. Wife and I are heading to the Caribbean in the morning for 12 days. Even though this winter hasn't been that bad, we still need some Vitamin D. Cleaned the layout room thoroughly today and made sure everything was put where it belongs so I don't have to hunt for things when I return and get back to work. After we finishing packing, I worked on placing a few road signs. Sorry for the blurred images. I finished this highway overpass earlier this week.
Made some progress today. Took all day to rebuild the turntable, but I am finally happy with it. I made a new arch over the bridge, and code 25 turntable pit rail. Added the boards on top of the bridge deck, and modified the electronics, relocating all the tall backside components to the frontside, so I can hot glue it under the module. I plan on wiring an overhead bridge light once it is permanently mounted on the module, with live overhead power wires. The LED will go through the hole, and I will have an industrial shade on it. Here is what the prototype looked like before it was electrified: Here is what the overhead electrical looks like after electrification. I am not sure what points the power wires were suspended between, so I'll take a "Modelers License" on that one and make a best guess. : Here is a video I made testing the operation after all the component relocations on the board, which highlights, my modelers license taken on the pit... The bottom of the pit has to rotate with the whole bridge. That's the only way I could hide that ugly gear and 16' scale deep pit bottom. MY pit is not round, rather it was poorly molded oblong, causing the bridge drive gear to slip a tooth randomly at the widest point, which is probably why they have manual index buttons on the top of the controller: And here is the roundhouse with the annex added, the stall doors installed, and the roof part freshly cut. I'm researching smokejack options, since there is nothing similar in Z, I am looking at all scales to see if I can find a close match for the smokejacks:
There are two videos on Youtube from Jason Jensen that I highly recommend (at least I think so; I'll know for sure when I'm finished.) One is on painting bricks, the other on building a pool hall. His methods vary slightly between the two. I watched both and am following the pool hall video more closely. It's not too difficult, but there are a number of steps involved. Nice job on the roundhouse and turntable, BTW. I didn't realize you were working in Z scale. Outstanding.
