Sams, Thanks for the compliment! I add an orange LED to the fireboxes of most of my locos when I add sound. So, it applies to a lot of them! The ten-wheeler and the 2-6-0 both have it.
My brother found a Con- Cor by Kato Baltic at ebay or a train show somewhere. They are a great runner!
My steam is mostly geared locos now and includes three Climax locos. The middle one is a Republic Loco Works Nn3 model converted to N scale with a Bmann 44 tonner mechanism. The other two are scratch built using the Bmann 70 ton mechanism. RLW Class A Climax conversion to N from Nn3 by John Moore posted Oct 19, 2012 at 9:18 PM
Just 2 small Santa Fe engines.... the last active Mogul 2-6-0 2531 (scrapped 1951) and one of the last consolidation 2-8-0 664 (donated to Travel Town LA in 1953). The 2531 is a modified Model Power engine: new 8500 gallon tender, Tsunami sound and speaker in tender, modified cab and repainted. The 664 is a modified MDC/Athearn engine. New cab and smokestack (3D printed), relocated sanddome, modified running boards (brass etchings) plus some other smaller details. Also a new 8500 gallon tender with coreless motor, Zimo sound decoder and sugar cube speaker plus lead weight inside..... tender has all-wheel power pickup. Both engines are good runners and can handle quite some cars..... (664 about 25).
Hi Dirk. Your engines look great!! I model a freelance Coloradoore/mining railroad (based on Nevada Northern & Colorado Midland) and have a pair of the MP 2-6-0s and 3 Athearn/MDC 2-8-0s. I'm doing an almost identical conversion on the 2-8-0s but using the Bachmann long USRA tenders and cabs (from their 2-8-0). I'm using 8x16mm coreless motors in the tenders. Great work mate!!
Thanks.... and good to hear you are doing same thing.... those 8 x 16 mm motors are great (I use those as well).
Thanks, the cab, smokestack and also a plug to cover the whole of the sanddome (relocated a little backwards) are avalaible from my Shapeways shop. Look for ATSF N Scale Models on Shapeways and/or www.atsfnscalemodels.com. If you have more questions please let me know.
This is my MP 2-6-0 with Loksound fitted into it. A few years ago, as they are all just sitting waiting on their move, yet.
