Way to go D, I've never considered learning the arduino, perhaps I should change that.

Just outstanding Dale. Nothing like an upcoming event to spur on an endeavor.
I thought I had the Corona illness one time after I drank about 12 of them, only lasted an afternoon though. I guess we cant be too careful sometimes huh?

If you do, I’ve got the code written out. It’s actually a loop that runs for about 2 and a half minutes or so, then it repeats. I can make it run longer if I want just by adding lines of code. I ordered another board last night, it set me back about 11 bucks. The wiring is straight forward, I used a 9 volt battery to power the board, could use a 9v wall wart if I decide to. I added a toggle on the fascia board to turn it on and off as desired in the battery harness.

The led wiring is as you would normally do for leds. Resistors on the long legs and the short legs go to ground. I plugged the leads directly into the pins on the board.

So for around 20 bucks I’ve got a neat little effect. I like that it cycles on and off. The weld effect kit I purchased came with flickering leds so it’s not a constant light.

After I get some more detail in the scene, I’m going to work on a control to cycle the oil well pump jack on and off at timed intervals. I figure about 3 minutes on then sit for 15 to 20 minutes. I figure that might be about right to run during an operations session.

It still amazes me all the things you can do in this hobby......

12 at one time Tom! You probably had enough sanitizer in your system to be germ proof for a while!

we ended up pulling the plug on LDOP this year. It looks like we were just ahead of the curve there. I’m disappointed in that we can’t have operations on the layouts, we had 15 really nice layouts open for operations as part of the event. It looks like we will try again next year. I’m still working on the layout as being involved in the event gave me inspiration to get things done. We also seem to be slowing down on family activities for a little bit so I have more time to devote to the layout.

I didn’t mention it at the time but my father-in-law passed in December then my step-father passed in January. Both were in their 90’s and we were doing quite a bit to keep them in their homes where they wanted to be. The last year was devoted to house upkeep and doing things for them. It feels strange not to come home from work and load up with M and spend the evening running around checking on folks. Luckily everyone was in a 15 minute drive of home!

I’m almost lost when it comes to deciding what to do next on the RR, so I decided to try and just get more scenery in. The trick is figuring out the level of detail I want to put in. That is where I’m at now with the steel company, I want it fairly detailed but am struggling a bit with it.

I also need to do the west side of the channel where the transload facilities are. The dock needs extending and I need to put building flats along the view block. The saying “the layout is never finished” is certainly true in my case!

    Take care buddy!
    Dale

Making some progress on Word Industries. Here are some of the details going into the industry. I have an almost workable scene. I need to finish the bridge crane and add more items to the yard area. The OSHA requirements these days will dictate that things are kept in a clean condition. That guy on the welder is getting after it!

    thanks for stopping by!

Thank you Michael. I know you have access to one of the machines. I just think it’s a neat idea to add some identification to the RR. It would be nice if my wife wanted one of them, then we’d have one in the house.....(y)

But M is a mean graffiti artist in her own right!

Definitely a cool logo to start with and looks great on the fascia. Nice gift from your daughter-in-law. It also serves the perhaps unintended function of drawing the eye to a very nice scene just above it

Some more progress today. I have been thinking of abandoning the barn next to the Bird Creek bridges. It just didn’t fit to my eye. So I give you the Bird Creek Lift Station for the City of Tulsa. The parts came from one of those DPM learning kits from way back when. I’ll be adding some extra details over the next few days. I will be adding glazing to the Windows. A few will be boarded up to prevent unlawful entry.

One of my favorite cartoons growing up Tom! In many ways these days I can identify with Mr. Coyote.
    Thank you Tom and Michael!

I hope you guys are safe! We are just seeing the the virus get going here. But we are always about a month behind the coasts on things.

    Get along slowpoke.

From the Left Coast your welcome.

In all seriousness though we're basically hermits afraid to go out and be around other people at the moment as we both are in the upper age virus range.

    Everyone be safe be well.
