We always talk about lumber loads and how to make them and there are lots of good ideas out there.

But I saw this one the other day and wondered if any of you have modeled an empty centerbeam with the cables that normally hold the wood stacks on it like this.

I want to know if you have what you used for the cable. Thread seems too large for N Scale or maybe I’m just not looking at the right stuff.

Any ideas or examples please post away!

Ron, I used nylon string for cables that are one mm thick on the Frisco Arkansas River Bridge project on my N scale layout. You can find the nylon string at Walmart in the fishing section. If the string is too big try jewelry thread, you can find it at Michael's Hobby store. Unfortunately Hobby Lobby is closed, I need to get some thin sheet Balsa wood from them.

What about using some really small brass wire rods?

I've noticed more with the cables just left lying loosely on the deck. With loose pieces of wood alongside them. Don't know how long that stuff stays put.

Joe mentioned nylon thread...some places it's called invisible thread...comes in a translucent black and brown. Nice thing about that stuff is it takes tension and can be adjusted using a heat source like a soldering iron to tighten it up.

That actually sounds like the good solution. Will try and pick some up and experiment with it. Thanks for the heads up.
