Wow that's nice. (y) I think the 5513 is owned by the Reading Company Technical and Historical Society and is an authentic ex-RDG unit.

CSX's (former SAL) main yard in Columbia, SC is located just across the Congaree River in Cayce. From April 1993, CSX departs with a former SCL GP-38-2 on the point.

While down in Texas, NS 8412 made some new friends and invited them up to Ohio for a visit.

Looking forlorn on a rainy day in 2006, the Piedmont & Northern's station in Pelzer, SC fell to fire and demolition in 2011. The P&N was the south's largest interurban, with nearly 130 Miles of line operated in two disconnected segments in NC and SC, and offering extensive electric freight service as well. Some of its lines remain, operated by CSX and shortlines.

Interresting. I thought I read somewhere about a FRA regulation that prevents "flat" nosed locomotives on US railroads, for crew protection in case of a crash. Did I misread or did this loco operate under a regulation exemption ?

I didn't notice that. Interesting. Ditch lights weren't required until sometime in the late '90s, so perhaps they hadn't applied them yet?
