I'm late in the game here but here's my entry. I used one of your flats to make a full structure. I also used a few signs from your collection in that thread. I made at least two serious architectural/logical errors in my design. One I realized before I finished but went ahead anyway. The other I didn't see until I was taking the pictures. (The loading dock mismatch doesn't count because it's from another model I just put in to see what a dock would look like.) My printer suddenly decided to put blue streaks in everything.

This was my first model of any kind in over 30 years. And my skills are just as bad as they ever were. I was watching TV while doing the photoshopping. Can you tell what show I watching?

I need some advice on paper and card modeling. I print mine on a laser/toner printer and as you can see in the photos I posted a few days ago, the toner comes off as I work on them. Look at the "Haney" sign and that corner of the building in general. That must be where my thumb spent most of its time. You can see how the toner came off. When that came off of the printer it was full and solid with color.

Is there a way to keep this from happening? I have an ink printer but it uses more ink cleaning the cartridges than I do printing my few sheets per year. And I would guess ink would rub off easier and more so than toner.

How does your experiences compare with mine here?

Wondering if you could "seal" it with a few light coats of flat clear? I do that with my inkjet decals so I figure if it's safe for that, it should be safe for a laser printed image. Would be cheap enough to test it out?

Thanks for the tip SLSF Freak. That's a good idea. I ordered some tonight and should have it in less than a week. I also read online that it could be a printer issue. I'll be looking into that too.

I finally got some Dullcote. Being a shut-in everything has to be "order and wait." I can only use sprays outside on the porch and between the rain (12 days in a row) and holding the can too close to the card, all I made was a mess. I'll try again when we get some low humidity weather.

In the meantime I found something that made a tremendous improvement. With my computer, running on Linux, I can't the proper drivers for my printer (an old hp laser) but I dug out my old laptop. It runs on Windows but it so outdated it's not good for much, but now has a new career and new value. I was able to set the printer for heavy card. That makes it printer about 4 times slower, and presumably hotter. That made a big difference in whether the toner rubs off. It still will with a lot of handling but between that and the Dullcote, when I learn to spray it correctly, I'll be all set.

I hope this would help anyone reading who has this problem.

@Hytec Um, I'm a bit late but, thanks! I have a feeling I stopped coming soon after.
I intend to develop my skills in card stock buildings blended with metal, wood and plastic. Monday I hope to cut my 'Container Home' in card stock. It is a simple 3"X1"X.5" (give or take), rectangular structure.

The cause is Photobucket. Originally free, they have some sort of pay system in place. This restricts how the user and others can see pictures hosted on their site. :(

Being a "rabid" cardstock modeler, I can appreciate Amos' dilemma. I had a similar experience a couple of years ago with a "professional" printer. To be fair, he wasn't familiar with the medium like I am. ;) Anyway, I got a printed batch from him. When I began to construct the boxcar, my ruler rubbed off the pigment. Bummer! Or, maybe not? I decided to use "native color" cardstock, print my own graphics at home and voila'! No more printer expense, cars look natural, graphics, a little sketchy but the price is right! I have done a freighthouse and am working on a passenger depot now. As for some ideas, perhaps use a little bit of wax paper or tissue between fingers and project. Good luck! And, Happy New Year! :D

My first 'presentable' structures are a pare of paper and craft stick buildings whose major flaw is that each building is only 2"s square. But they are a good practice run for future projects.

If you would like the 8.5x14 pages to try your own I'll be happy to post them.

You can be sure there were many that just plain were too awful to share. Still, this is a big step for me.

Why is it every time I click on the "link" it goes to no file found?

The building with "White Satin Flour"? I click on it, and the image enlarges.

I'm building a layout and will need some structures. I'm in early stages and wanted to give cardstock structures a try.

    Wohnhaus

First is a simple residence. The pattern is downloaded from Grundschule Pretzschendorf (https://www.grundschule-pretzschendorf.de/Werken/Weihnachtsberg/weihnachtsberg.html)

This was printed at Z-scale size. The overall dimensions of the finished model are approximately 5cm by 3.5cm by 4cm.

This was a test model to see what it would look like - I just used plain letter paper in my inkjet printer. The model went together easily, and I reinforced the structure internally with some 2mm foam board. I made the chimney with some brick paper and added the stone foundation with paper from Archistories. It is a sturdy structure and can be easily improved with additional detail. I'm pleased with how it turned out, and would likely rebuild it with better paper and some additional detail items added.

Total time to build was about 2 hrs.

    Cheers!

I think some of these card models are really great. But most lead to; "file not found", or the images have "Photobucket" printed across them? Can anyone explain? Am I missing something? The buildings do look very cool, but I can't get the correct images!

    Hi Robert -

Can you give me some examples of images that are giving you trouble? I might be able to help. No promises!

Are you using Windows or a Mac?
