    Hi All,

Just got back from visiting my dad. It's been eleven months since I've seen him. I usually get down to his place every other or every two months.
Well we talked Z scale, prototypes, and layout ideas for most of the time! Looked thru his collection some more and came home with some goodies!
One object that I think may interest some is this: PENNSY_K4Class_4-6-2.jpg
Any interest in a Z scale cast metal version of this?

I got one of those shells, I think it was PennZee? I just found mine a couple months ago while sorting boxes last summer. I also found trailing trucks for it, but no tender.

    Robert,
I was told this was an test run casting to see if PenZee was interested in producing them. I am not sure now will have to check the source. But the casting is very good quality and it seems to come with the tender, trailing truck for the two rear wheels, and tender trucks. The loco comes with instructions in a Rogue Locomotive Works box.

Nice looking locomotive, but if it was a Milwaukee Road Hiawatha, I'd be all over it!!

    Any Interest? Yes Defiantly Yes
We need more North American Steam prototypes in Z scale.
I would love to get my hands on another one.
The one i have is from Fred Lad's junk box and has seen better days. It would be nice to have a complete un molested model as a guide to go by for restoring the one i have.

Here are the pictures of what my dad has. Does anyone know what the PenZee production run was?

Yeah, back in the day, if you seen it, or it was announced, you got an order in ASAP or you would miss out. Z Scale has always been small production runs and most of the stuff was mom and pop production, which lasted till the proprietors got overwhelmed or burnt out. If you did score and get something, and later found you didn't want it, there were always those that didn't jump immediately and missed out, lined up for the chance at it.

If you see it, get it, for tomorrow it will be gone! If you don't end up using it, you can trade or sell it down the road. More Z Scale products than you could ever imagine have came and went from just as many individual craftsmen and women.

Actually if memory serves me correctly, GHQ actually produced these. They are the ones who did the military castings. They were dabbling in near Z products. I know a group worked with them to produce this beauty. It was to fit on a Marklin chassis. I know a few are out there in folks hands. Mostly from guys who were around in the mid 1980s. Also produced around that time was a metal F40PH shell. It was chunky and not as nice as the K4.

The website is Larry’s, a German genius. He’s on this forum once in a while, mainly working on German early era locos and wagons. @CNE1899 you could check with him for more detail probably.

    Larry,
My dad was one of a group of people who were part of Rogue Locomotive Works. I started a thread about sorting through his collection andkeeping things I wanted for Z, and selling pieces for him so that others might enjoy them.

This is one of the latest finds, I have not been down to his house for months due to Covid. Long story short, he told me this was an initial kit put together for PennZee to see if there was interest. I guess PenZee was not given this to keep, just shown the possibilities.
There is also a set of instructions that are hand edited that talk about different tender trucks, including the cast set and whether the cast set is sufficient.

I got a whitemetal bodyshell off Graham at Z-Club GB years ago. No tender though. tender is scratchbuilt in Nickel Silver and runs on a pair of Marklin 6 wheel trucks. Chassis is the Marklin Bavarian 4-6-2.

i did it as the only one to get Tuscan red colour scheme and it hauls the Marklin Tuscan red coach rake on Cuyahoga

All that weight sure helps it pull!
