On May 18th, 1996, (I remember it because it was the 10th anniversary of my having quit smoking) Pere Marquette 1225, which had just started smoking again about 8 years before that, made the short trip from Owosso to Durand, MI to go on display at Durand Railroad Days. I caught the first shot as the big Berk hammered across Geeck road. (Don't look at me- I didn't name it and would have been hard put to make that one up) The wigwag, to the best of my knowledge, one of the last two in use in lower Michigan, was a definite plus.

I don't recall seeing Rod Serling anywhere, but after I'd cropped out a couple of 90's vehicles, I realized that this would make a great time warp photo.
It might have been 1996, but it could just as well have been 1946.

The Berk did, however, make it safely back to 1996 and went on display in Durand for two days, simmering at reduced pressure until the next morning when the crew started building steam for the return trip to Owosso.

A time-traveling steam engine? Did it go 88 mph before zapping off back to 1946? :p

Budd-built "Park" series of dome-observation-sleeper cars, built 1954. Looks pretty good for coming on sixty-seven years old.

    Better than me, for sure!

Yeah, Jcould say the same for myself, also coming up on 67 years.
Looks like the week for looking into the past.
I should note that 1225 did not reach 88 MPH, at least not while I was watching and later examination did not reveal a flux capactor anywhere. Surprisingly, however, I have read a couple of times that the Van Swearingen Berks were designed for a top speed of 96 MPH, so I suppose it could have. Crews on the PM did reportedly operate them at speeds up to 80 MPH- not quite fast enough for time travel.
