Sorry, a bit confused. Is this also a DCC Decoder that would negate the need for a digitrax decoder? Edit - (RTFM Owen) needs a 58828 DCC & Sound decoder as well.
Yup, it requires a separate Next18 Decoder as the WVD product is only an adapter board. For clarity, 58828 is not the only decoder that is compatible with the board, it will work with any Next18 plug decoder as long as you have enough headroom. @Wuttermelon what decoder and speaker would be recommended for the Kato P42? Is it possible to purchase a decoder with the sounds already loaded for the P42?
Use an ESU 58828 (Next18 only) decoder (or any of the 5882x series, and unplug the wire connector from the Next18). I've put Soberton 1208 speakers, using the KeyStone Details enclosure designed for it from Shapeways. I did this video on a wired install, just before these boards were available (same speaker and decoder as above). I've done a couple, since, with the WVD board, cutting the installation time in half.

hey wutter. First, thanks for designing these boards. Its really helpful especially for Sound novices like me. I am having one issue. I wanted to simply clip off the standard Kato LED and put in on your board. But I can't get it to work. I reversed the directions of the leads but still no light. Even tried a second Kato LED and no go. What am I doing wrong? Thanks Mark
Assume you've tested the LED and it works..... What decoder have you plugged into the board? Do you have it oriented correctly in the socket? Does the motor work, and just not the lights? If sound, does sound work? Have you turned on the headlight by pressing F0? Did you load the settings into the decoder?
Everything Rick asks is on point, but I also seem to have extremely vague recall to experiencing something similar when trying to use a particular stock Kato LED on another application (not the Wutter board). It may have had something to do with that particular Kato LED possibly being rated differently(?). At any rate, I may remember this completely wrong, so proceed accordingly.
Mark, Are you addressing the A units by a consist address, or by a unique road number? If by consist, have you set CV21 to have the decoder respond to consist getting an F0 on/off command (note, the PowerCab headlight button is F0) I would try very simple, first — put a short address into the decoder, and remove any consist address.
More good questions from Rick. Don't know if this question has been asked yet, but does it come on when in reverse? Also, I've had some (pre-V5) ESU decoders (73100's mostly) that either came with an odd light setup or had one once I uploaded a sound file. This would include the front and rear board-mounted LED's flashing as ditchlights (for what reason I cannot imagine) and I think at least one time this occurred with the FO and FOR headlights as well. So, it could possibly be a light programming issue.

That is a LokSound 5 Micro DCC decoder. Might be the ESU sugar cube, or some other 8x12 speaker, don't recognize enclosure Why does it cost so much? Decoder = ~$90 street price. Speaker and enclosure ~$8-$10. Labor (including milling down the frame to make room for decoder and speaker; loading correct sound files; testing; etc.) ~$90. Sure, doing your own installs can "save" on the labor cost (we don't charge ourselves), but these aren't fast. And, to properly set up these decoders, you will need either a LokProgrammer (which allows you to also load sound projects) or, at minimum, Decoder Pro. There are over 2000 CVs for these, not easily done with a handheld throttle. Doing your own, you can also add a modicum of stay alive capacitance, and, depending on the road, a dedicated Mars light (or emergency red, or both, etc)
