No doubt many senior railroad officers are gathering up for Sunday afternoon meetings to analyze the plan and its effect on their traffic flows. Shippers on KCS lines will want to retain routing options and their rates. Shareholders will have a say, with CP issuing 44.5 Million new shares, borrowing $6.8 Billion and assuming $3.8 Billion of KSU's exiting debt and Regulators too will have to review.

Sad to see KCS go; they've held out for a very long time.

I'm sure the system map is more generic than actual. The omission of KCS Gulfport, MS sub giving KCS/CP access to the Gulf of Mexico is significant. I suspect CP may have already agreed to give the Gulfport Sub to CN as part of the deal. Makes sense because CN now gives KCS trackage rights to access the 67 mile Gulfport orphan sub between the KCS yard in Jackson, MS and the KCS interchange in Hattiesburg, MS. I'm sure CN has regretted that IC sold that line to Mid-South years ago. Oh well, we'll see what falls out in the details, wherein the Devil lies.

I have to admit that I have never seen a KCS unit in my life, unless you count the multiple autoracks. It makes me feel bad.

That makes at least two of us. :( KCS units sometimes run through into the east, but I've never been fortunate enough to be on hand when it happens.
