The cars are old Roundhouse Hoppers (Now Athearn) and on two of the cars, the chutes are from a long gone parts guy and on the 3rd car, the chutes were made from simple sheet styrene. I got them close enough that I can't remember which is which. Here is the prototype for the model. The cars are really close but not an exact match.

As I get closer to finishing the garbage truck, the next vehicles that have been waiting for the workbench are these Army trucks - 2 M142 HIMARS and 2 M1078 LMTV trucks. I know a lot of equipment these days is seen regularly in the desert camo or kaki colors but I am going to do these in olive drab green. I mean nothing screams U.S. Army more than OD Green :) Thinking these would look good on some of those recent M/T DODX flats but would probably need a couple more as I'm thinking it would probably look better with 3 to a flat. My only concern for finishing them is getting the cab windows to look decent enough on them.

More work on the Herzog cars this weekend.

Finished all the side decals and just have the end reporting marks left on one car. May get it finished today if time permits. Also finished one side of the garbage truck. Only a little touch up paint and a pair of decals for the other side to go. Painted the garbage cans that go with it yesterday so should finish both of those items up today as well.

    20210327_124407.jpg

The 3 Herzog cars had these loads in them painted grey to sort of resemble ballast. I popped them out for an upgrade.

    20210327_124410.jpg

I brushed on a thin layer of glue and covered them with some Kato Unitrack ballast . Once dry, I can brush off the excess and should have ballast loads that actually match the track ballast. Hopefully they turn out good.

    More later.

I need to get me one of those modeling mats one day. Don't they help prevent cutting the service underneath it? Will small clue over run stick to those mats?

For the most part, they are easy to clean up but as you can see in the pics, I have managed to make a mark or two. The green one seems to be the best and does allow you to cut things on top of it without damaging it. You can find them at almost any store that has a craft section and are for sure worth having. :)

The Herzog cars are all done. Just need a shot of flat finish. Reporting marks on the ends were a pain but done. The redone ballast loads turned out good too. Also have the garbage truck done and only needs the flat finish as well.

Got half the base coat on the 4 army trucks.

Didn't get much else done. Weekend was gone way too fast and now for a super busy system testing work week.

Is the foam cube holding the ballast car held in by friction or tacked with glue?

The loads are just a very tight friction fit. That way, they are removable if needed.

Where you get the army vehicles? You 3D print them? They are super cool!

Sorry, misread that. Yes, it is a friction fit as well.

Well, life has been busy of late. I've been checking in and keeping up but I last can't believe that I posted nothing in the last 11 weeks. Of course I haven't got much done either.

Just a quick update from this weekend was putting a coat of flat finish on several models. Here is a quick shot of them in the paint booth. Sorry for the bad lighting.

Happy Monday everyone! A few little things from the weekend.

First off, finished up this little project. A Busch Mercedes sprinter van repainted and decaled. Started out as a DHL van.
    20210620_081826.jpg

Next up, I finished up a Royal Models 53ft modern cattle trailer. This thing is super nice. There was virtually no clean up to do on it.
    20210620_081855.jpg

One more GHQ low boy trailer added to the fleet as well. Not sure if I will load it with another excavator or maybe a small transformer that is being delivered to the electrical substation on the layout.
    20210620_081910.jpg

Next up, I am continuing to work on details for the roof of the grain elevator. I have this some assembly required set from Walthers but all it has done is really make me want a 3d printer because all of these could have been done as one piece details.
    20210620_091100.jpg

Not much else new for now. Thanks for checking in.

Yes, get that printer, it's a big part of my enjoying the hobby, and you won't be disappointed!

I'm really liking all those models you're painting, great work! All that cattle trailer needs now is the right smell wafting out of it :D

Some years ago I pulled up on the interstate on a motorcycle and got behind one of those cattle behemoths.

Believe me you don't want to add the essence or the discharge from yours. (n)(n)

Thank you sir. I think I'll pass on the scented trailer. :censored:

Been there, done that but in a convertible, not a motorcycle. It's a story best left untold. :D
