There is not a New Jersey Pulverizing (NJPX) mark in the 1946 Register. I am still tempted to say the cars were GACX.

I don't have many book specific to the CNJ, that would be a good start...

This is a great resource. I am patiently waiting for a clever 3D modeler to make an assortment of tank car domes and car ends. With the archer rivet decals and s selection of brass or plastic tubing we could make nearly any tank car. I would like 4000, 6000, 10,000 gallon cars with multiple domes including 6 dome cars.
I would also like high walkways cars.. Anyhow, that's a discussion for another place and another time...

    Hardcoaler,
I have checked that site out and it is great! I think I spent an entire evening looking through those pictures. Unfortunately, that is ACF and the car in question is GATX.
    Randy,
I checked CNJ's roster for the 30s and 40s, but no GATX 33,000.

I am currently building a UTLX 1895 tank car in brass. I think my next attempt will be this one.

    Randy,
I found a reference in the 1934 Railway Age regarding five Dry-Flo tank cars built by GATX for the B.T. Babbitt Company of Albany, N.Y.
They were leased to haul silica sand.

I think these ended up being GACX cars.
    Your research is outstanding !!

    Randy,
I found some reporting marks for B.T. Babbitt for the teens and twenties, but only for ACF tank cars. I wonder if the marks stayed the same for the GATX Dry-Flo tank cars in the thirties?
I also came across a reference to an ACF tank car photo for the Babbitt Co., but no photo. I was hoping I can use the photo for a graphics prototype.
The first is from an 1919 Railroad Administration circular, and the second is from a Canadian marks site.
I also found that the Babbitt Co. had a D&H siding in N.Y., and sidings for Erie and N.Y., Susquehana & Western in N.J.

Wow, That's a lot of information. Looking at my 1946 register , none of these marks exist. It appears that many of the smaller tank car owners were enticed by the lower overall costs of leasing cars from one of the big leasing companies.

But all this makes me think of some one off cars I would like in my collection. Off the top of my head I can think of four,. MINX- 3M steel underframe boxcars with roof hatches. NATX poultry cars, RVCX vinegar cars, and now some GACX ? aggregate cars. I don't need many of each. I just want a bit of variety in the rail yard.

    Randy,
You know what the real bummer about the ACF photo I was looking for is? The lot# just before it is in the photos in the Barriger Collection.
There is a photo of #5442 (Union Sand).
Just not a photo for #5443 (B.T. Babbitt)

    Hi all,
Finally found a picture of what the GATX Dry-Flo tank car looked like in my original photo. Turns out it was right under my nose all this time.
I was re-looking thru a 1940 Railway Age and came across it! I just need to figure out the font and I'm set.

There are a couple of apps that you can try. "Find My Font " and "WhatTheFont". I used one if them several years ago but I'm not sure which. I think naybe it was the second, but I wouldn't swear to it. In any case, they aren't perfect, but it might help.

    John,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried a few so far and no luck, like Identifont, and Font Squirrel. I'm sure I can fudge it, if I can't identify it.

I found a free font that was close. What do you guys think?

My attitude is "close enough is good enough".

Other than the numerals, the flat angles on the tops of the M, N, and A characters, and an M that not quite as wide, I'd say it would pass for me. After a while I wouldn't even see the difference anymore.

    Mike,
I agree, but I still searched for a better font. The posted image is the original font(upper), plus an additional font for numbers.

The lower image is the new font. I think I like the new font overall. Any thoughts?

Indeed, the numbers are a better match.:)
