And how many of you recall the eBay listing of a "Mint in Box" -- which was literally that! eBay was NOT happy...

I had another thought about the "mangled payments" system that eBay has adopted...

Suppose I told Amazon that I wanted them to ship me something before they received payment? How hard do you suppose they would laugh at that?
Also, the local store, the big box retailer, etc. etc.

This is what eBay now expects sellers to do-- ship the item immediately after payment is received--by EBAY--but wait four days for eBay to get around to getting the funds into the seller's bank account.

If I were a seller, I would slap a ten day handling period on everything... but that would no doubt lead to new rules from eBay "to enhance the buyer experience."

The new math: Four days X millions of $ they are holding on to = lots of interest earned!

Of course they don't pass any of that to the seller.

    https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/minty

Could you return an item because it failed to meet the definition of "minty" as meaning that it should either taste/smell like mint and/or be pale green in color, rather than being in new condition?

How quickly we are able to Forget that these Readers Digest Promotional N-SCALE Freight Cars and Locomotives seem to lend themselves well to the KITBASH project section, I have heard of N-SCALERS Replacing the FREIGHT CAR Trucks with either MTL Trucks or ATLAS Trucks . As you all know The READERS Digest GP35's Lend themselves well to the ATLAS / ROCO GP 9, GP30 CHASSIS . Which I have posted one of my KITBASHED Readers Digest Locomotives with a ATLAS / ROCO GP CHASSIS.

The dummy was "tested"? How do you test a dummy? Ask it what one plus one equals? C-6? no way. Missing and broken parts. Can't be any better than a C-4. At that price, only a complete and total fool....

Knowing that this one it is not ebay.. I thought it possibly worth a mention here. 6 cars, I see 10 total. I could see at least all 10 for $197 and some odd change.

So in the interests of understanding, I did a single listing on eBay that closed today now that I have been moved to "managed payments."

For your information, possible amusement, and maybe a "woo woo woo" here is the exact e-mail I received from eBay regarding the sale.

Your buyer has confirmed the payment of $(X) + $(Y) Shipping, it’s time to pack up your item and ship it out. Make sure you send it within 5 days, the handling option you selected in your listing.

Payouts of available funds are initiated within 2 business days of order confirmation. Once eBay initiates a payout, funds will be available in your bank account per normal bank processing times.

"We will gladly pay you in four (business) days but you ship right now." You can see why I raised the handling time to five days...

Hmmm. So then, eBay takes two days to process a payment and likely more days before it appears in my PayPal account.

I read that eBay's stock fell 10% last week as a result of management's guidance of weaker earnings post-Covid. I guess "Managed Payments" is a result of a brainstorming session in their Finance Department.

Maybe you could engage eBay with Six Sigma process improvement to get them headed in a better direction. I have a White Belt, so might be qualified to make coffee while you teach. :D

I've had orders canceled because the seller didn't get payed first. Then tell me it will be shipped when it arrives. But they won't get payed until shippment is proved.
Less than a year ago I bought this stuff locally. It doesn't have to come from China. Canada is doing it as well.

It gets better. eBay sent me THREE messages complaining that "we need to validate your bank account" and is holding the proceeds from my sale until such time as I satisfy their requirements. That will be another two to seven days.

Oh, and I can upload one of my bank statements as an option to fulfill their requirements.

Sure, and I can also publish all my credit card numbers with authorization codes and expiration dates on the dark web, too.

Actually, no, eBay won't deposit to your Paypal account anymore. They want direct access to a checking account to do this. They can also remove funds from said checking account at their discretion to pay fees... or refund a "dissatisfied buyer." You can see where this can lead...

One of the first things you learn, or should learn, in Six Sigma is that before taking a project, you validate that the client wants to improve. Clearly this is not the case at eBay HQ.

EBay and PayPal got a divorce...Ebay had to get rid of PayPal so they are now distancing themselves from it and making it harder on the sellers. Of course, am I the only one to notice that there are VERY FEW actual auctions happening there? It seems like BIN (at not very interesting prices) has taken over the site.

As of 3PM-ish Eastern Time on May 3, 2021: 181,404 items listed, of which 6,071 are auctions and the rest are Buy It Now. I'm not sure that 6,071 is a good number since many auctions I review are "reruns" of stuff that didn't sell before and won't sell later either.

Also of interest (?!?): Of the 181,404 items listed, 92,698 are within the USA. I filter on that criteria.
