    Hello!

Is there any good alternative for remote uncoupling Märklin Z uncouplers? The standard uncoupler seams to be decent, but it is rather large and expensive.

I have seen rumors in old forum threads about something called "system-joerger" and that it apparently involves gluing small pieces of metal to all couplers. But I have not managed to find out anything more regarding how it actually work and its reliability and limitations. Anyone knows more about this or any other solution that doesn't involve replacing all the couplers?

    Hello Jsand,

System-Joerger works with an electro-magnet and indeed little pieces of metal to be glued under the fishhook couplers.

Manfred Jörger invented it and sells it:

The website is rudimentary but ordering should not cause any problems. I have one but I have never installed it so I cannot give you first hand experiences. For what I heard, it works well and better than the Marklin original.

    You'll find video's on youtube, e.g.

The activated magnet causes the fish hook to move up and sideways, hence uncouple when coupled.

In comparison, this is how the Marklin uncoupler works:

    Cheers,

Wow, that looks really elegant! and thanks for a very informative answer.

Do you know more about the metal parts required to be glued on to the coupler? are there something you buy from joerger or source yourself?

Well, at the time I got one, you could also buy "Magnetanker" to glue under the couplers. I don't see those on the website anymore, but there is a "Biegevorrichtung" available (https://www.system-joerger.de/shop/Biegevorrichtung-für-Magnetanker-p291064991). I am not all that proficient in German but I am pretty sure it is a device that helps you bend a metal strip or wire in the right curve. All it takes is something small and magnetic to react to the electromagnet. Btw, you are supposed to build the electromagnet under your traintable (mine came with a small angle iron, nut and bolt), with the two metal sides sticking up about 5mm parallel to the tracks. I am not sure it would work with track with fixed roadbed (Rokuhan, MTL).

    Hi Jsand

I use the Jörger Entkuppler since 17 years.
The Entkuppler are a "Electro coil with 2 sheets", deposite beside the tracks.
The works only with DC (12-16V over a button).
Here are some pics for the changes at an Märklin Waggon

Fo the installation of the "Entkuppler" you can visit my HP

The function you can see here at minute 3

They works perfect with MTL Kopplers ;)

Jürgen and Matt, thanks for more great and informative posts.

So it looks like slightly bent staples is enough of magnetic material, great to know.

I went to Jürgens page (Very nice layout!), but did not manage to find the "Entkuppler" installation images, would you mind helping me find the correct images?

I have emailed Jörger about ordering some Entkupplers to Sweden, hope he replies soon.

For Manfred Jörger you must wait some time (maybe), because he is now 80 and he works the most time (or drive) on his motorcicles (Oldtimer)
