Do you build your prototypical trees yourself? Which manufacturers are there in the international market? I mean the typical North American conifers. Example: cedar, sitka, hemlock, etc. . So far I had my trees from https://www.anitadecor.nl/ Very nice trees. Custom-made items were even made for me. I'm very happy. But which other manufacturers are there? Who is your favorite for prototypical trees?
I bought some Busch Pine Trees pkg(60) bus6572 1-3/16" - 2-3/16" The look real good to me. Yes...they are the spiral 'bottlebrush' variety but they are tight and lots of 'branches' to cover the 'trunk'. I think I may have to order some Busch HO pine trees to get the height I am used to seeing around our place. We have one pine tree in our front yard that is every bit of 50' feet tall ! All those tree look great, but the modelling in that first photo with the trees along the river bank is truly excellent.

I kinda did the same as he did except: I used an old plastic xmas tree bought at a second hand store for dirt cheap. I cut the branches off the main limbs and trimmed the individual pieces with scissors to the basic shape of a pine tree. Instead of glue I read an article on using Extra Hold Auqanet Hair Spray ! I then dusted them with medium turf. All in all...they didnt turn out to bad...IMHO !
I used to buy trees off of Ebay that were made in China. Took weeks to arrive but they were cheap and with a little sprucing up (pun intended) look very presentable especially in groups. But as with all things these days they are no longer cheap. Used to get scale 45 foot deciduous trees for about $0.11 each with no charge for shipping and I'd order 400 at a time. Now the price has more than doubled and there is sales tax added.
I have a stash of the same Cheap Trees From China. I must have gone overboard because every time I open a box downstairs there's at least one package of them! One of the issues with truly realistic trees, which has been discussed since there were model trains, or at least model train magazines, is that trees are much taller than we usually model them. The pine tree in my backyard is probably 60 feet tall. On my old layout, a tree that size would be taller than the scenic barrier that hid the continuous loop trackage! So I "selectively compress" trees as well as everything else.
Which to me always begs the question: Do fewer 'tall trees' or lots of 'smaller trees' make a layout look bigger ? A small tran running through a vast forest or a small train looking evan smaller running through some tall pines ? HHMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........
Here are two examples to compare sizes. I mostly used larger trees in the foreground of the layout. The decisive factor, however, is the correct scale of all details. With the trees, however, it depends on which scenic region is to be depicted. Be brave and use big trees.

At first I also tried to make trees, but mine looked totally shitty. Gradually I bought around 4500 trees. Oh god, I mustn't think about it. My wife would shoot me into space the most.
