Good morning from cool and rainy Northeast Ohio!

I managed to complete a couple of cars this week.

Intermountain PS 5277CF Boxcar Kit, painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and Silver Paints and lettered with Herald King Decals. The Detroit & Mackinac ran from Bay City, MI to Cheboygan, MI and after Conrail to Mackinac via old MC lines. The 5277's were purchased in the late 70's to partcipate in the IPD Boxcar boom, the D&M folded in 1992 after the natural resources (timber) were depleted and a lot of traffic was lost.

Tangent PS4750 CF Covered Hopper Kit, painted with Scalecoat II MOW Gray Paint and lettered with Herald King Decals. Even in bankruptcy the Rock Island continued leasing more covered hoppers to handle the grain business while retiring old worn out 40' boxcars that were previsouly used in the grain trade. This car had the 1971-75 speed lettering that the Rock Island was using.

Another view of my Rapido RS-11's passing the coal mine on the Strongsville Club layout.

    Thanks for looking,

    Rick Jesionowski

Well, since I model the Rio Grande in Utah, I had to buy one of these Oklahoma short line locomotives!

    Hey Candy,

This is something called "EasyCast Clear Casting Epoxy." It comes as a 2-part mix, and is a relatively small amount (8 oz) in each bottle. Just right for something like this. I bought it here at a local hobby shop, but you can get it through Michaels (https://www.michaels.com/easycast-clear-casting-epoxy/M20004278.html)

The water is tinted with the "Murky" Water Tint from Woodland Scenics.

    https://woodlandscenics.woodlandscenics.com/show/item/WSWT

I used about a tablespoon with this pour, using all of the two 8oz bottles of resin. I think it turned out just right. I ordered some snapping turtles from MiniPrints just to complete the hot summer day scene.

    Take Care,

    -Bob T.

Entrance to the yard and engine servicing facilities:

CN 44 tonner no. 1 coming out of the scrap yard spur on the left.

And there's a brand new 567 engine on the yard track behind the gondola, waiting to be installed.

With the wind from the right direction, and a steam loco blowing some nice thick black smoke, more than a little bit worried... forget about April fresh smell...

I'll bet those residents are glad diesels came along (though EMD 567s can throw impressive plumes of sparks from their stacks ).

I especially like the D&M boxcar. Very nice work as always on a prototype I'm partial to. As a side note, the D&M didn't really fold, although there was a considerable loss of traffic. This included not only timber but, if I understand right, also involved the loss of a contract hauling aviation fuel for the U.S. government. THE D&M was sold and today is operated by successor Lake State Railway Company. Other than the old roundhouse and shop complex at Tawas (demolished and replaced by a Walmart) the thing I miss most about the D&M is their all ALCO diesel fleet.

When Bachmann introduced their Spectrum PRR K-4 some twenty plus years ago I purchased one. It was my first steam loco that actually ran for more than a few weeks. When I created the first layout here at our current house about thirteen or fourteen years ago the loco was used quite a but. Unfortunately this led to a still unexplained derailing that resulted in the loco crashing to the concrete floor. The repairs needed are beyond my skill at this time. Over the years I have looked for a replacement. During the last two years I managed to purchase three replacements but I had to return each one due to serious problems with them. When Bachmann announced a new run last year I of course preordered one. Now there is no word on when they will be released. I do not want the streamline version. I know BLI has a version but I am not willing to pay the prices folks are asking.

The other day I came across an International Hobby Corp PRR 4-6-2 Pacific. This one was a Command XXV Premier Gold version and the price was good. I had never seen this line from IHC. After getting the loco and running I do have to say I am impressed. It is a very smooth runner. While it may not be a K-4 for now it will be a good stand in.
