Looking for Atlas VO1000 US Navy #9 & #19. Can't find 'em ANYWHERE !!! Need "un-DCC" !!! Posted in Swap Meet, also. As Moody Blues said, "I know you're out there somewhere !!!"
They'll eventually turn-up on e-bay for three or four hundred dollars apiece. We live in a get it now or forget it altogether world.
It's frustrating indeed. There are locomotive body shells I've been looking for that haven't shown up in years. @Mark Ricci and I have been seeking Atlas' CNJ Cabooses which have somehow attained unimaginable valuations. I've never been one to pay mightily for cars, homes or model trains. Life costs a whole lot less that way.
For what it's worth..... Been looking for a n CNJ VO-1000 for a while. Saw a new CNJ shell on eBay and then found a "new" analog or DC unpainted VO-1000. You probably have seen those from a FL seller on eBay. At any rate, I would have considered buying the loco even after losing the auction on the shell and painting it if I had the skills..
I saw your WANTED Listing on TRAINBOARD Swap Meet Section. You might also try a WANTED TO BUY listing at N-Scale Yard Sale group. https://groups.io/g/NScaleYardSale/topics This is an io Group. Which are what the old YAHOO! groups changed into. The group is Moderated, I have lots of good experiences buying and selling there.
Up until a year or two ago, there was a nice fellow in NJ who sold quantities of Atlas locomotive body shells on eBay. I always wondered if he'd bought Atlas' inventory. His prices were reasonable, he was prompt with responses to questions and I bought a number of shells from him. Unfortunately, he no longer lists.
I belong to that group. It varies and depends on the seller. Some are very reasonable some are wishful thinking or someone who is not aware of used prices. But the key aspect of that group is the civility and no BS environment.
I can paint if there is a desperate need. I think the Navy scheme is really simple as long as we can find a good blue to use. Randy
Oh, thought you were talking about the yellow, didn't see it in blue. I like the clean look - yellow with black railing. Guess the hardest part is finding decal for marker and lettering?? Good luck in your quest.
I don't want one , I was offering to paint one for you. I have a bunch of yellows here, I also have an undec shell. I honestly didn't know they were yellow.
Thank you very much. missed that. Shell look I wanted 1063 or 1064... Heard it called a number of greens but think its Brunswick. Have the markers (decal) in delux(gold) think it close enough to the yellow. Unpainted https://www.ebay.com/itm/390255782846 If you wanted or needed one would you consider the undecorated shown in link above? How would you paint? Please excuse the dumb question, my background is electronics and have no experience in painting models. Heck, hate to admit but still haven't got enough nerve yet to put long horizontal decal on unlettered combine car? Any insight you have on long decal application would be greatly welcomed. Thank you again for the offer.
Stripes can be tricky but, sometimes I make small marks as a guide on the shell, keep the decals wet and don't get impatient. Lots of stripes on these.
Shoot, I just remembered that I rode behind U.S. Navy VO-1000s on a June '81 fantrip at the Earle, NJ Naval Weapons Station. Ends up that the train was led by one of the units that @Mark Ricci is looking for.
Wow, the decals look great. The long railroad name decal looks perfectly straight. Do you use the micro sol or micro sat or both?
