Hi I'd like it to include some rocky desert scenery, and a freight yard. Locos would be diesel. I'd appreciate any ideas, suggestions. Thanks, Robert
Best 'red rock' country I've seen.... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDe1syufmwe59mIZuD5tatg/videos Eugen is in Switzerland but has the southern California desert nailed... https://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?threads/bnsf-dieselshop.128765/ There is another great desert on that I think is on here but can't find the link but here is a link that might help.... https://www.trains.com/mrr/videos-p...ke-route-part-5-easy-to-build-desert-scenery/ .... and a google search ( HERE ). Another great one... Brad's (nscalestaion) layout ..... https://www.trainboard.com/highball/index.php?media/albums/home-layout.3223/ Also check out his scenery tips in this years layout party thread ( HERE ), Sumner P.S. Might be helpful down the road if you changed your 'signature line' to show what scale you are in . .
At 39" deep, you will need good access to both sides. Is there room to do so? You'd have ample depth to support a scenic divider, similar to the Salt Lake Route layout in the Model Railroading article referenced above. That layout could be a good starting point for a layout of your dimensions. It illustrates how a non-linear divider can make best use of both sides of the layout. But if you like switching a freight yard, you'll probably want more industries for which to switch cars. On the other hand, if you want a yard mostly as a display for your freight car collection, it won't matter! The Salt Lake Route is also a good example using Unitrack, if that is your preference.
