Hello everyone, here's the picks for this week. Philip K with some KCS widecabs BuddyBurton with BUGX 1204 r_i_straw with UP 844 Hardcoaler on the Lancaster & Chester Sepp K with Middletown & Hummelstown 1 RailMix with old Detroit & Mackinac ALCOs and Mike VE2TRV with CP 144
Nice crop of photos again. That gets me thinking about picking up a bunch of old Geep (and other loco) shells once the train shows start up again. Nothing relieves boredom like kitbashing some oddball piece of motive power...
Love the steam, as you know. What is that device in Philiip K's photo? (For those of us who don't keep up with diesels).
Yeah, like Buddy said, sanding tower. Steam guys should be familiar with them as steam locomotives used a lot of sand too. Here next to a coaling tower in Argentine outside Kansas City is a row of sand towers to service multiple tracks.
I guess this steam guy is getting dumb in his old age. Thanks. Never saw one like that. Great pic, Russell.
As noted that a KCS standard sand tower. They are all over the system, at least the Louisiana and Mississippi portions I interact with most. This is the one in Baton Rouge ( not my photos) - http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=307851 http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1921985
