I've been independent all my life, took care of my family and was hoping to continue that into the alleged Golden Years. It is what it is and it can't be anything else at this point. My Dad's Birthday is rolling up. Even though he isn't here I'd like to think, he'd like something for His railroad. So scanning the obvious internet go to places to see if I can find some rolling stock. I need to extend a public shout out of Thank-you to two guys here. Yes, it's been awhile since I've checked in here. I wish I could report that I dug into the layout project and got some work done. Hanging my head in shame, nothing has gotten done. Still on hold waiting to see how things pan out with the neighbors renting the apartment in the basement. Looks like that is about to resolve itself. As for the news, with the news and etc. If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all. If you follow my drift and you will as you read on.. The aging house HVAC as they explain to me is the proper way to address it. I had some other adjectives, expletives and slang words I'd prefer to use. It quit!! We are facing triple degree weather and the one room, window AC doesn't cut it and the train room is hot, these days. Harrumph!! Unresolved is the future of this house. As I previously communicated...translated, I may be moving yet again. Not at all happy about that possibility. Of course that includes the future of the layout, pike, spaghetti bowl, and my favorite is a folded over pretzel-ed dog bone. Prices, and i mean prices on everything is going up. Gas, groceries, rent, WiFi, and more. I know who to thank for that but I will do that another way. Darn middle finger just doesn't want to behave itself. I sat looking at all the N Scale and HO train equipment I've collected over the years. Wondering what the future is? Thanks I need all of that. Observe the obvious and when things happen around you. That's your first clue. Never believe what you read, see on TV, Internet or social media. It's living in a state of constant confusion on a personal level that wears on me. I feel sorry for others who are going through the same loss of control over their lives. The getting old thread, as I like to call it, here on TB says it all. So, I'll take this discussion somewhere else. Sigh! I've had time to run down to the Nampa, ID., Union Pacific Yard. The trains are getting longer. Old news I'm sure. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw a two mile long train drop off a string of cars, approximately 50 cars long. A local switchman, driving his own car managed to keep up with all the action. A local or yard switch, was also working the yard. Preparing the locals that go in both directions these days. The first train left town but not with a shorter train. He had picked up another string of over 60 cars and hot footed it out of town. Two sets of DPU's in tow. One mid-train and two on the end.. Running trains that long scare's the poodigee's out of me. Spell correct wants to change that to poodle's. Go figure. BNSF and UP they've had problems string-lining downhill trains on Techappi Pass, CA. I know odd. Why would anyone want to catch a train at a Railroad Crossing. I don't know but my hand is up to signify, I want to. I was hoping to catch one of those long trains at Happy Valley Crossing. There you can get a perspective as to how long these trains are. To the west you can see east bound trains pulling out of Nampa, UP Yard. Of course looking east you can see west bound trains heading into Nampa... They have intersections torn up and installing Roundy Rounds to keep traffic flowing. It works. Scary the first time I drove through one of those. So after taking the detours and the maze all the construction creates. You guessed it, I missed the train. Well, that's it for now. Catch you all later.
Thoughts are with ya buddy. Mixed feeling on those long monster trains but the missing them due to a roundabout bites!
Roundabouts, or traffic circles, are making a comeback in some US cities. They are a good way to manage traffic & speed without using stop signs or speed bumps/humps, but they consume more real estate. Fort Worth TX has had a large, two-lane traffic circle in the southwest part of the city, at the intersection of multiple highways/boulevards, for decades, if not longer. It takes some getting used to, but I drove through it every day (twice a day) for years.
Tulsa has one about a mile south of the airport that is two lanes with a large Route 66 decorative structure in the middle. Joe

I got one of those some years back from co-workers. Now that company is in Holland and the next division of a large corporation I worked for is in Canada. I'ld say that being awarded a "Got A Round Tuit" badge is a bad sign.
Rick, sorry to hear of all the troubles. And why is it that when I’m too busy to catch the forums, you are too? Again I thought I was going to have several pages to read to catch up, and it was only one. Good news on that end I guess, but the uncertainty part really sucks. I’m in a state of that right now myself. I have been working at the same place for 11 years now. We are a contractor for Uncle Sam managing the medical database used around the world. Unfortunately the database that I was hired to manage had been replaced with a more modern system, and my company has not picked up the support contract for the new system… not sure if they are going to or not. And all of this while I just got a promotion to a new and higher paid position. I guess I will find out in November if I get an extension or unenjoyment. Happy birthday to your dad! I live in my mom’s house and every year on her birthday I try to do something that I know she would have liked to the house. This year was new dish towels. Well that’s it for now, I have triple digit heat coming for me today, I need to find a cool hole to drop myself and my small humans into to stay cool.
Roundabouts are OK after you get used to a particular one but are a bit intimidating at first. Conventional intersections are never intimidating. Just look both ways and go. Doug
