Newcastle Ca. As the railroad leaves Rocklin headed east, the Sierras stop being a legal entity for bond purposes and start being actual mountains. At Newcastle, we see the steeper approach of track 1 vs. the longer approach track 2 took. Mainstreet Newcastle is a series of former packing sheds perched on a hilltop overlooking the surrounding area. The railroad runs atop the hill, crosses I80 and through a tunnel as it moves up to Auburn.

    Rust...

    IMGP3562.JPG

The short train ride offered at Exporail gives a view of the rusty underbelly of a railroad museum, lots of rolling stock waiting for restoration. Some interesting weathering ideas. Even an improvised track end bumper on the left.

And further proof that sectional track is used!

More rusty museum pieces. During the "Great Shuffle" of our collection in storage a few years ago in Houston to get a few cars out to send to Austin and Arizona.

This isn't the photo I planned on posting this week, but in keeping with the rusty equipment theme everyone has going, here's a Huron and Eastern ballast car that showed up in Marlette in June of 2019.

It is still on the storage lead behind a fence with all our collection in Houston. We are desperately trying to find a permanent location to have a new museum site. We had one all worked out in Tomball, Texas just north of Houston but BNSF refused to move the collection over their tracks to get there. UP is still working with us. However if we do not find a new home soon we will have to dispose of the collection and get out of the museum business.

On my way to Modesto to do some house hunting, I came across California Northern #503 and #1570 doing some switching in Wesley, Ca. today.
