Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend and got a lot done. Let's get started.

Saturday: We spent the better part of the morning cleaning up the family cemetery in prep for my Mom's service, then went to Maine to enjoy lobster rolls and ice cream. Once back home, my Dad and I explored the old Pennacook freight depot and the surviving trackage. It answered some questions on my track design.

Sunday: Ang and I took it easy. We did some shopping but no trains today.

So how about you? What did you get done? Let us know. We'll assemble again on Friday the 16th to start the process all over again. Until then, have a great week, stay safe, stay healthy and as always...

    High Greens!

Got five of my seven train table legs in primer. They'll be cut to exact length later. The remaining two legs will be placed where the tables join, so are different in design from these. I'll tackle those next.

Projects large and small this weekend:

A new work bench/work table for the construction of modular layout sections:

    New-Workbench-sm.jpg

Solid-core door top with shelf for clamps and other tools. Casters allow for use as a work table when working on the layout.

    The small:

MiniPrints snapping turtles for the Brush Creek diorama:

These will go along the muddy creek here:

    Have a good week All,

Finished another box, as I continue scanning more slides. Searching for where I hid some Shapeways freight car truck frames. (Argh.) Altogether yet another weekend of a little here, a bit more there. Might have a car kit at the ready to paint stage, later today.

This weekend, I started working on converting an N scale RS3 into an RS3M, as there is no commercially available RS3M in N scale. The Housatonic RR has an RS3M #9935 (Currently stored out of service). I am attempting to replicate it for my Housatonic layout. These shots show the original shell, my modifications and a reference photo of the #9935. I still need more details, paint and decals. I am happy with the progress so far. I have installed a decoder, and will attempt to add a sound decoder some day, although there is not much room inside for a speaker.

Gotta say that I'm so impressed with the projects everyone is working on. This remains an amazing hobby, with a diversity of modeling and prototype interests that seems unlimited. :)

I I was on vacation so I had a long weekend. I added passengers, decoders, and lightest to my new Metra coaches that came in as well as weathering a couple of boxcars…[IMG]
…and making my Metra SW1500 (undecorated MTL body with a donor frame and motor) and Metra Coach 7868 which is a revamped Pullman that they made additional room for bicycles (donor was a duplicate Kato Metra Pullman Coach). Decals for all by Switchline.

I’ve some some weathering before, but the switcher and this Pullman were my first attempts at complete custom paint jobs.

Hello all. Weather was great here this weekend. Started doing some yard work Saturday morning and got stung on the leg by a yellow jacket so retreated to the train room. Enjoyed some BBQ chicken on Saturday and wife made pizza on Sunday.

The N scale searchlight signals went together smoothly and I was able to finish them by Saturday. By Saturday evening I had them installed on the layout. Before installing I had cut a gap in the track at a point where I only had to cut through the rail joiners. This can be seen in the photo below. Looking through all my details stuff I found a California Freight relay cabinet and added that to the scene.

The wires from the signals were landed on a terminal block under the bench work about 8 inches away. Testing at this point everything looks good. I have ordered some more cable to reach the activating circuits. Because of the length of my blocks, I found that the Team Digital circuits that I had intended to use were too sensitive and have ordered some more NCE units which I have had better luck with. If anyone is interested in the Team Digital units, I'll be posting them on the swap meet thread.

I did some weeding of the front gardens yesterday. Surprisingly I was not too stiff this morning. The wife and I went to Kohl’s to pick up an online order and return something. I had to do the grocery store and produce store runs. Did a few chores around the house.

I changed out the couplers and added metal wheels on a Reading Athearn coach. I ran a my longest freight train to date on the new layout. It was 23 cars.

Friday I managed to paint a covered hopper, a boxcar and the roof of a mechanical reefer along with starting construction of the mechanical reefer itself.

Saturday I spent some time at the club operating session where I ran all the road freights which included pickups and set outs at the towns entourage. Started decaling the covered hopper and boxcar in the evening after going out to dinner with my youngest son and his wife.

Sunday I sort of laid around but got the laundry done and some more decaling done along with drilling some of the 72 holes for the Plano Roofwalk on a covered hopper kit.

Wowsers all around! I too am impressed with the work done here. I am just a tad frustrated as the only things left on the building are balcony railing and the hotel sign. Saturday was chores and visits with family. Sunday was less chores and some progress. This a.m. some light chores. I am thinking by tomorrow night she will be done. (y) Everyone have a great week! :D

Saturday morning was productive. I built the radial benchwork for the upper and lower levels at the end of the peninsula.

I also discovered that I had aligned the subroadbed and track through the peninsula false wall improperly and got that corrected quickly.

Sunday, we were out of town at the in laws. However, I did begin tracing sections on a sheet of plywood for the 32” radius subroadbed around the ends of the peninsula.

Got a few more trees added to the layout, ran some trains, and drank a bunch of coffee is about all I got done model wise this weekend. Was fun.

Hope you all have a great week!

Got started on my Walters N Scale Modern Gas Station and installed all my brand new Atlas manual switches on the layout, 7 of them. I no longer have to mess with those remote switches that had missing wires, etc... so much easier to work with these manual switches for me anyway!

I didn't have a specific plan for the weekend - felt kind of like "writer's block." All I knew was that I wanted to work on how to detail the pantograph section of the Metroliner (N Scale) I forced myself to just get a print done hoping that would inspire me - kinda worked. After seeing it put together now I have a plan!

    metrolinerPanDetails.jpg

Everything from the pantograph base below is printed in one piece - not how I plan to do the final version however. It's easier to paint if the insulators are applied separately. But hey - it's a start!
