Has anyone devised a coupler setup to doublehead a couple of the BLI Mountains? I am thinking about chopping up the pilot on one of mine to doublehead. Don't know anything on about the new Micro Trains couplers. I think I heard they will couple but not automatically...
After looking over Micro Trains Web site it looks like their prototype couplers are not compatibel with magnamatics.
I don't understand folks who make steam without a working front coupler. Locos double head and there are switching movements and pushing.
I remember seeing a large steamer in a museum with the front coupler slid back into the cow catcher. I would have to be pulled out to use. It was the middle of the week so no one was around to find out how it was done.
Bachmanns J class has a front pilot that can be used with a coupler that is hidden or with closed pilot. In the 1 to 1 world usually it was passenger equipment that had that option. In most cases the coupler would swing inside the pilot.
Keystone Details has them. They don't work automatically though. https://www.shapeways.com/product/A...lacement-4pk?optionId=59820199&li=marketplace
Some passenger steam had a drop coupler that, when not in use, pivoted down and was covered by sliding doors. I believe the Lowery designed PRR K4's had this feature and possibly other streamlined steam. Must of been a real bear to manually lift that coupler up to its operating position.
