BTW...put the 'cut' edge down in the grass. The grass will hide any small imperfections in the cut. The factory 'gathered' edge up makes it look like 'top rail'...to my eyes anyways... ;)

    Big Jake,

I was just trying to keep it simple, also the radius of the dish is a related to center frequency the signal bandwidth. I teach antenna theory and opted not to get too complicated.

You can probably put a piece of masking tape on the ribbon to mark the cut line. Then just follow the edge of the tape as you cut.

[ Attention everyone! Our next model railroad meeting will be in the fabric section of Joann's. :ROFLMAO::LOL::D ]

    COULDA...SHOULDA...WOULDA... !!

Just doing a lot of train running these days. Every now and then get an urge to do some modeling. Nothing HAS to be done however.

    COULDA...

Made the area where the old school was into anything. Decided on "Chris Cable"...complete with satelite dishes out back. Fun project :) (documentation further up in this thread)

    SHOULDA...

Fenced in 'The Homestead' years ago ! IMHO I think the fencing came out great ! (documentation further up in this thread)

    WOULDA...

Made the area behind the radio station in 'Georgetown' a parking lot. Now its going to be a homeless encampment. More lights to wire in....:rolleyes: (documentation further up in this thread)

Did however get in a flower planting mood this past weekend.
THE WIFE thought it was sweet that I..."had gotten in touch with my feminine side"....:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I really didnt think it was possible. I have actually run the wheels off a new (2013) Atlas GP-40 locomotive !! Lots of miles on it!! It is Santa Fe 2964....pride of my fleet !! In the last 8 years I ran this thing everytime I went out to THERR RV.

The trucks are shot. The wipers are shot. The handrails are beat to death. The rear of the long hood has lost it's tabs to keep it attached to the sill. The motor still runs great but the rest...not so much :(:(

I'm looking at Atlas's parts pages. I dont think it will cost that much to get all the parts....put them together...and make this thing look nice again...and run ! ;):D. It will be a bit of a 'Frankenstein'...with black handrails and all but thats ok. The owner of THERR...(moi)..buys any locomotives and rolling stock he can from where ever he can as cheap as he can. THERR is a mishmash of all things train related.

Well...I got the homeless encampment behind the old movie theater done. There is a 'burn barrel' on the curbing. I drilled a hole in the plywood and used the fire leds.... https://evandesigns.com/collections/hobby-leds/products/fire-led-kit ... I cut a short piece of 1/8" brass tubing for the barrel and painted the outside black. That is then glued in a 1/8" hole in the curbing. The curbing with the burn barrel was then glued over the hole with the 'fire leds'. (y)

The flickering fire lights in the barrel look really cool !:D:cool::cool:

The homless people are 1:150 Tomix...which makes them giants compared to regular 1:160 people. o_OLucky enough these are the only people in this area so it's not so noticeable !

I started working on finishing the turntable area. Used the slate gray latex caulk for ballast on the Unitrack...as is the rest of the layout. :sneaky: Still lots more to do down at this end....

I made foundation sides for the 'car shop' as it looked bad once I cut it down from a 3 stall unit to a 1 stall unit !! Everything in this area is now glued down. I will see if I regret doing that when I start doing scenery in this area...:LOL::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

. Now...back to running trains. The best part !!:D:D:love:

I've noticed many layouts confirm the words to the song: 'Bobby told Lucy, "The world ain't round... Drops off sharp at the edge of town."'

But at the edge of this town, it runs smack into a cliff! Hope nobody's "going ninety miles an hour down a deadend road" here!

I'm imagining the roadside signage that might be appropriate here...
    "Caution: Road Work Ahead"
    "Rough Road Ahead"
    "Steep Grade Ahead"
    "Lane Ends"
    "Be Prepared to Stop"

Beautiful rock work, by the way!

As I had previously posted...my turntable area was looking....welllll...a little "BLAH' !!

So I got out my quart can of Valspar Chalkboard Paint and got busy...

Once the paint is dry its best to 'season' it...just like you would a new blackboard ;-)

Rub white chalk all over the painted surface.

Rub it in with your finger.

Then take a dry rag and wipe the whole surface. Turn the rag occasionally to get a clean area to wipe with.

You can see the unseasoned paint I havent seasoned yet in the area center left in the picture above.

A few hours later and BAM !! I think the area looks a lot better !

You can call it 'black cinders' or even older 'asphalt' Either way...Rule #1 applies as always.

    Thanks for looking....

    Lookin real nice.
I do remember 'seasoning' new black boards. First grade was at the churches school. Then it got burned down. So 2,3 &4 was in a one roomer public. 5th was in the new church school with new boards. 'Seasoning' was part of my first assignments.
Thanks for keeping us up to date.

That BNSF(?) loco at the turntable in the second pic looks like it's a little impatient and wanting to move some freight:D:D
