    Life Happens.
Many of you have seen me come and go over the past 16~17 years.
'The Grey and Grandure RR' has experienced many, many, many variations over that time. Each time it has returned a little smaller and by extenstion more 'doable'. I've started many threads and posted 10s of pictures. Well, I'm going to do it differently this time.

No Pictures Until Trains are Running.

    Location: Livingroom

    • Size: 40' around three walls
    • Depth: 18" to 24"
    • Era: All
    • Trains: From steam to Shinkasen
    • Track Plan:
    • Front 6" to 12" - long local point to point freight line with lots of industry, an interchange and some excursion. It also features a copy of my first layout, (Lynn H. Wescott's #4 from 101 Track Plans)
    • Middle 6" to 8" - Dog-bone for continuous running freight, some excursion and several semi hidden staging but no real 'yard'
    • Rear 6" to 8" Double track point to point bullet train along rear.

    Features
    • Hyper modern city at one end
    • Adobe village at the other
    • One smaller 'town' somewhere
    • Modular industries which can be easily swapped out.
    • Modular hills which can be removed / swapped out
    • Various 'hidden gems' such as 'Dragon's Lair'
    • Birthday Hedge: Light from the windows will be tracked to mark a person's birthday and a small 'monument' will be erected to light up each year on that day at a specific time.
    • Sound: I will be running sound I recorded onto cell phones at different places around the lasyout.

    Family
    Participation

    • Everyone will be invited to participate in any manner they enjoy.
    • Carlens, (son-in-law), - Has been very helpful in the construction of the cabinates and such
    • Step-daughter #1 - (mother of my two grandsons), will be making a 'musical bridge'. I'm not sture what she means.
    • Step-daughter #2 - Will be working on the 'hyper-modern' city
    • Grandson #1 - will help with 'JMA', (Jelani's Martial Arts', Teen Tightans Tower' and a 'Pokeymon Reserve'.
    • Grandson #2, (born Dec 2020), has contributed 'baby sounds' for the city. Great Lungs!
    • Laura, Wife / Director of Land Management / CFO: Granted space around the living room, provided funds for the layout, and by asking simple questions saved me from myself over and over and over.
There is more but I'll spare you.

Don't forget Doc Brown's Delorean. A time machine would be helpful.

Ask for pictures, my real images folder is full of layouts that never got finished. I will be using the Tardis and yes there will be one on the layout.

I do remember your postings back that far. But, that was getting to be the end of my N gauge layouts and '07 was the start of HO Gauge. Now I'm headed back to N. I think.

Welcome back and know "Everything normal all mucked up". If you know what I mean.

You got to share pictures. Past, present, future (photo shopped). Whatever it takes.

    Right there with you.

I've never finished a layout yet. I don't believe there is such a thing.

One of the mysteries of model railroading.

Hi Steve, more than happy to see you back. I was worried because you disappeared without a trace, not even saying goodbye.

Glad you have returned. I was in the same situation a few months ago. Starting new is "fun". Will be watching this thread

I remember that incident, your previous layouts and I recall in the distant past doing up a few locos for the layout.
Welcome back and remember the idea is to have FUN! :D

@Shortround - We will probably move in 3 years. At that time I may to goto 'HO' or 'O'
@BarstowRick - Ya, I do know what you mean. I think pics are bad luck. Kinda like seeing well, never mind.
@Hytec - Ya, No, excuse, didn't intend to leave suddenly but, well, 'Life'
@OleSmokey - Nice to meet you. It can be fun or draining.
@r_i_straw - < bemused grin > I *knew* someone would bring that up. ☻ Nice to be remembered.
@HemiAdda2d - Yes, and I am sorry to say the water from the fire hoses poured over the layout. I lost my CP unit coal train including the beautiful jobs you painted.
I believe, (but I'm not sure), the UP to GN U50s did survive and will be revived.
    Current Status
Retired - As of this coming September 14th, (coincidentally my 67th bday)
3 Years sober - despite < you know what >
    Family is healthy

Ok, Ok, I'll post a track plan. Sight.

    Question:
    In Railimages
How do I create an 'Album'?
    How do I load content?
    Or do I?

You may have to be a contributor to get this option. I don't remember. You will have to try it.

On your Rail Images page click on the "Add Media" button at the upper right hand corner.
On that screen click on the "Choose an Album" option.
Scroll down one line to "Create an Album"
Fill out the fields in this screen.

I'm not reading you. So, I'll dump a little of my own experience here. I posted pictures of what my layout once was. They are good memories and ones I'll cherish. The however here is it worked or had the opposite effect on me. Instead of boosting my moral I found myself in a frump h, harrumph. In other words discouraged by what I see, wondering it I will ever get it back to the "Particle Board Central" I once had. Considering the time and money it will take to restore it back to it's original state. So, I think I'm following you.

Move again, did you really say that? Seems we model railroaders find ourselves on the move all to often.

Fire hose, I take it there was a fire. I hope you aren't anywhere near all the present day forest fires.

The best to you Grey One. May your layout come back and your trains run again.

@BarstowRick and everyone, Ya, all is good. I'm in Boston, MA.
On January 16th, 2016, at 6:16, (yes, really), in the morning flames broke out on the 3rd floor of my townhouse. It was an awful raw rainy morning fortunately the flames went up and everyone had plenty of time to get out safely. Much of the water from the hoses found its way down to directly on top of the layout.
The fire was caused by a tennent who was smoking and drinking. She went to sleep. You know the rest.

There were many many many silver linings. I have to emphasize that.
    Model railroad speaking:
One of the regrettable loses was Hemi's hard work and the CP unit train but those are just things.
Due to numerous factors I lost access to trains for about 4 years.

    Since then
    1. August of 2019 I was given a land grant in the living room and there were trains running for Christmas. Still my eyes were bigger than my space.
    2. Summerish of 2020 I tore it down, re-arranged the living room and tried again. It was a 2' deep and 40' long in the same place as the one above.
    3. Spring of 2021 I found out the wife had decided to retire and move in 3 years. What? When? Why? Never mind.
    So
    • I didn't want to spend 3 years getting something running only to have to tear it down. Sigh.
    • I took my time and redesigned it to the above footprint and structure so I could pick it up in 44" ~ 48" sections.
    • I took that opportunity to base the base on cabinets, (idea from @mtntrainman and his RV layout). Pics to follow. The Minister of Land Management Really liked that idea and as Chief Financial Officer allocated the funds. My future brother in law is going through the torture of assembling them.
    Hope this helps.

    Note:
I tend to write in single lines due to visual limitations it is easier for me to edit etc.

    Best wishes for your future.
I write in single lines a lot as well. For the same reasons.

River Rock Weights holding down track bed for Shinkansen station on the western end of the layout.

G&G Rock Weights on Western Branch20210826_231324.jpg

This end of the layout will have tracks on the top, (shinkansen), and bottom, (G&G), levels.

To the bottom right you can just make out the door entering the living room.
