Looks like the NP Lowey colors on the Noth Coast Limited. I like those selections.

The north switch for the steel mill siding is in place and about 5 feet of main line now extend across the viaduct. In the next 5 feet, the main will curve left and go through the corner of the wall and then enter Yard Limits at Charleston.

After spending the last couple of weeks setting the viaduct and laying track over it, I’ve finally made it through the wall corner for the second time. There will be two more corner crossings above on the second level, those will be cut out when the actual grade approaches the corner.

The corner is part of the hallway to the entrance of the layout space and will be the first thing visitors of the layout will see. Eventually the walls will be painted and the corner crossings will be sceniked and trimmed and will actually look good.

I believe I have also settled on a fascia color. The color chip on top is called “Montana Moss” and I think it just about hits the winter-burnt turf color I wanted for the fascia.

    Carry on!

Little details like the fascia make a difference and enhance the finished look of a layout. Nice one! I use simple flat black....

I did the exact same as you with the color chip analysis, though I was looking for a faded industrial/railroad green with a hint of gray and settled on "Coastal Dusk". What's weird is that per the two color chips, the Valspar's "Coastal Dusk" I bought in 2019 is a different shade than Valspar's current "Coastal Dusk"! Fortunately, the quart I bought in 2019 will be plenty. After some initial doubts, I'm very happy with the choice.

I went through about a dozen color chips and even mixed up a bucket from leftovers in the garage before I settled on Montana Moss. I strongly considered black and make it so it looked like the shadow box style I’ve seen on some layouts. I think the solid black and black ceiling would make the room feel smaller than it already is.

Hoping to start painting fascia later this fall.

Between Saturday morning and Sunday morning, I extended the subroadbed and the cork roadbed off the end of the viaduct and through the corner of the wall. Very close to the point of needing plywood sheets again as we approach the coal classification tracks.

I also finished up ALCO S4 #2231, which was formerly #435 which has been posted here before fairly recently. I ended up reblocking two trains in staging with it this morning.

Finally, I worked on improving the basement entry yesterday. This will be the primary op session entry during warmer weather months. Water has a tendency to collect by the door, so hopefully this will help address this going forward. Still need gravel and paver stones.

Not necessarily, the problem is ground runoff running under the deck to the right. The current slope guides the water towards the wall and down to the door. I cut into the slope two feet when I put the new wall in and used all of that material to build the slope away from the wall.

Ahhhhh , OK as long as it slopes away from the door you should be good .

I wonder how long the brick wall will stand.

    We’ll find out!

The bricks and delivery were free, so we’ll make the best of it. At 2 feet high, I’m not that worried about it.

Through the outer dimension and beyond!

Track has been laid through the corner wall northbound into Charleston Yard Limits. The next obstacle will be trimming the lift out to fit properly behind the HVAC blower and getting track laid over it. I would like to get a couple sheets of plywood next weekend so the base can be fastened to the benchwork and the track plan at the south end (geographically west) of Charleston can be sketched out.

Two of four cuts through the corner wall (which cuts through an interior corner of the hallway) are completed, two to go!

Here is another shot of the viaduct leading up to the corner cut. The track crosses the viaduct diagonally in order to broaden the curve at the far end for optimal clearance and reliability of larger cars.

Track and feeders and more track and feeders…

Accomplished more this weekend than I expected. I bought a sheet of plywood at Lowes Saturday morning for the south end of the yard at Charleston. I cut out sections to fit the back corner behind the HVAC blower and the left out as well as part of the coal yard.

I was careful not to get ahead of myself and made sure I had feeders installed in staging tracks 11-14 down below!

Later, the lift out was adjusted and all of the plywood was fastened down and the foam sheet was glued to the top. Time for track! The main track was extended about 10 feet, the passing siding was started and has about 6 feet laid. Also started on the end of the coal yard tracks as well.

Should be able to connect the main track to the other end of the lower level in a couple weeks!

    Golden Half Spike?

The main track between lower staging and the classification yard is completed. A test of a 20 car empty coal train with caboose was run up to the lower level and checked out well.

This morning, I finally tried the new soldering station. Wow, what a difference the right tool for the job makes! I haven’t built a turnout in 4 or 5 years, and the first one on the new #8 template took about 45 minutes. Looking forward to cranking more of these out!

    Forks in the road.

I was fortunate to end up being off from work Friday, so that gave me another morning to work on building turnouts. Two #8 turnouts for the A/D tracks and the Drill / Service tracks were completed and installed on the layout.

I also built the scale track from part of my #6 turnout template and freehand with the NMRA gauge. Each rail at the scale is a single piece of rail, so this should perform very well, still need to solder the points to the throw bars.

I also built three sections of benchwork for the upper level and fastened those in place as well.
