Rich, first, congratulations on both the SW1500 and the SW1. If you are adding the decoder to the SW1 be advised that getting the shell off is very tough as the fit is extremely precise. I have two that I decoderized and almost gave up on adding the decoder. Also, they come with traction tires so they pull well but electrical pickup may possibly suffer. Still, mine have always run well on our NTRAK layout so I would assume they would run well on reasonably good track work.

You know, nut-bearing trees depend on squirrels not finding and eating all the nuts they'd taken and buried, to spread the trees' progeny...

I wonder what survival advantage applies to forgotten, hidden Christmas presents? Maybe it helps lift our spirits at additional times of year, just when we need a lift?!

Hi Inkaneer, Thanks for the feedback and yes the shell removal was a little tricky. Grabbing the shell and fuel tank I was able to work the shell up enough to insert a small screw driver between the shell and frame. As per Arnold's directions, I worked both ends up evenly. I'm glad Arnold / Hornby marked the PC board with the location of Pin 1, that made the application of the Digitrax decoder a snap. I do know what you mean about the traction tires, but one advantage of this locomotive is the hard wired trucks to the PC board (Extra note to anyone purchasing these locomotives, do not try to pull the shell off holding onto the trucks, it possible to pull them out of the frame and snap off the wires) The wipers on the back of the wheels is another nice feature and the pickup seems to be good. With the traction tires, I'm amazed at the slow speed and pulling power of this locomotive. It is a very nicely detailed and running locomotive. Because of it's short wheel base, it will probably spend most of it's time MU'd with my Micro-Trains SW1500. The top speed of the SW1500 is considerably faster than the SW1, but I was able to get the SW1500 and SW1 speed matched at slow switching speeds, which is the service they will be used in. All in all these Arnold SW1's are nice little switchers, I hope Arnold / Hornby plans on a second run.

The latest run of JTC's 53' well cars.
My only complaint is they come with plastic wheels, but that's the easiest thing in the world to rectify.
I hope they slow the releases down a little, I'm going broke.

Well a new Kato red My Tram is on order that should be here within two weeks. I have the Blue My Tram and am very happy with its performance on the unitrack layout. I also stumbled across a slightly different green version that I am eyeing.

Well Christmas is coming early. I received notice from my Japanese supplier that the ferry boats I have been waiting for for two years to be restocked are in. So ordered two different ones. They are both paper kits.

I've had a BR44 limited edition on order that was supposed to ship from the manufacturer last month but has been delayed till the new year.
Probably a good thing for my bank account as I just took receipt of this beautiful Rapido Canadian Pacific 10 car set to go with my CP FP9A's. I already have 6 of their smooth side cars in UP I acquired years back and one can see the detail has gotten better with lots more applied parts above and below. The other improvement is the interior lighting now works on track power rather than batteries which I tend to forget about and they wind up making a mess after a few years of sitting idle. The lights still use the magnetic wand to turn them on and off.

While the detail is fantastic there are some performance issues such as axles rubbing on the chassis but that is an easy fix with some .010" shims on the bolster pin areas. The couplers are MTL knock-offs with the usual problems so along with adding shims I'll be replacing the couplers to make a more reliable running train. I knew what I was getting into before pulling the lever so not much of an issue for me.

Ok not sure if I mentioned this yet, but a few weeks ago I bought a Tomix Nuremberg Tram that was listed as a “power unit” which told me this will have the motor chassis in it. It cost me a bit more than the other same units for sale, so I figured this was powered. Also in the listing they mention proper voltages for use… again tell me it’s powered. I get it… no motor chassis, it’s the unpowered unit. I send the seller a woo woo woo message and he says the listing is correct. We go back and forth a bit with me finally getting it through his non-English head that powered means it has a motor in it and it will run on rails. I get some coin back, enough to put the same price right about where the non powered models are.

So I do my best to read Japanese and find the part number for the motor chassis and WOW one available for $200. This can’t be right, so I search around a bit more and find them widely available for $50. Much better. It arrived today, and now my tram has power. I tested it on my tram layout and wow does it move. It is actually so fast at the default setting for the Unitram that it totally misses one of the stops because the delay has not passed yet. Good news is it works and works well.

So here are the pics you have all been waiting for.

That is a sweet looking tram Massey. I had been thinking about doing an import order from Japan to get an EMU passenger train and was thinking about putting in a tram as well.

I was surprised when I checked the mail and found these Fleischmann cars waiting on my porch. They were back ordered months ago which I completely forgot about and guessing the typical email shipping confirmation went to spam. Nice surprise none-the-less. Both "wagons" are the first of their type I have in my euro collection. I wanted to see how they looked IRL before buying more. Fleischmann is about equivalent to kato as far as detail, fit and finish but lately they have been using a lot more applied parts to get the final product looking really nice. I expect to get more as releases make it to market.

I'm glad to know that Fleischmann is still around. I have a Fleischmann Deutsche Bundesbahn 2-10-0 from 1976 that looks really nice still runs beautifully, bought from Paul's in New Oxford, PA. Pauls was a landmark, housed in two B&O passenger cars and a center building. It closed years ago and the passenger cars were cut up in 2011. :(

What a cool train store. It's sad to see these landmarks relegated to memories.

Fleischmann has been struggling for a bit. Roco recently bought them and now they make only N products. Their HO stuff is really nice though so I'm sure that will be missed. I'm trying to horde as much of their stuff as I can afford as their future is still in question.

You should post some pics of your 2-10-0.

Here it is, just a cell phone picture. I forgot that the tender is powered and the locomotive is a free wheeling dummy. Fleishmann's engineering is excellent though -- you'd never know it. The tender has traction tires, so its pulling power is good.
