Very well done John! For me the subtle details like the sidewalk cracks and scribed lines are excellent. The back chain-link fence it’s something I admire and appreciate someone using as well. Plus the various building colors are an excellent touch.

For me though, the icing on this cake, apart from the fact that the building is really well done, is the American flag hanging at the top, and gently blowing in the minor breeze.

The NYPD 12th Precinct has a new paddy wagon.

I used Randy Brown’s Step Delivery Van painted in NYPD colors circa 1960s and added a police light on top that I kitbashed from a leftover Kibri factory part.

With the POLICE decals by K4 Decals https://k4decals.com using their Police Car Markings Gold, Silver Black and White decals in Z scale https://k4decals.com/products/polic...1&_sid=00fd63fdd&_ss=r&variant=37633625587871

And the NYPD police emblems by Dan Decals.

The real paddy wagon that I used for reference is below.

    Enjoy!

I really like those randy brown vehicles and I like how yours turned out. Those decals add that little extra that captures that vibe of your layout. Now you need a couple crooks being taken in! Haha

38-40 Suffolk Street was a 5-story building that was where my Dad’s grew up until he graduated HS and went off to college, the youngest of six 2nd generation Italian-Americans children in his family, and the only one in his family to graduate college. Sadly, I had no photos of the building to go by and the building current doesn’t exist. Where my father lived on Suffolk Street is part of the Lower East Side, just five blocks South of the famous Katz’s Deli. So I decided to model it as best I could as a dedication to my Dad but there are no 5-story building kits in Z scale that even resembled a NYC tenement. The closest to what I needed was the 3-story building “Little Joe's Pizza” by TownBuilder System. It looks close to a NYC tenement but it’s only 3-stories. I own one of these beautiful kits but it is out of production so I couldn’t buy more, and kitbash it into a 5-story building, besides, these kits are so rare I wanted to save it. So, enter my molding / casting skills. I took the front of the “Little Joe's Pizza” building and molded it, then made three castings, and cut them all to fit together. For the sides I used styrene covered with Rslaserkits 4704 Bricks (with adhesive back) and left the rear of the building plain. I scratch built the 1st floor windows and used doors from my parts box. I used Miller Engineering’s single window fire escapes on the front of the building, a GCLaser 55703 Z scale roof walkout, and scratch built a water tower on the roof. The windows were the most challenging, I was stumped for a while because nothing I found fit the window openings to my liking. Luckily, I stumbled upon a window technique by JH Railroading that describes how to model windows by scribing in the window muntins on a clear piece of styrene. It worked perfectly, and is now one of my new favorite techniques for modeling windows. I used K&S clear plastic sheet .030 #1310 styrene and then glued it to the rear of the front of the building using my new favorite window super glue BSI super-gold 07336-12100 which won’t fog up the clear styrene. My Dad’s family lived on the 5th floor so I modeled my Grandmother on the 5th floor fire escape hanging laundry, and just for the fun of it on the 3rd floor fire escape I placed Tony and Maria from “West Side Story” which Birgit at Trafofuchs custom made for me. I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out.

    Enjoy,

    John

It looks like it fits right in perfectly. Great build! I’m very curious too as to that upper level you are developing where you have it located. Looks like you are able to pack a lot in that area.

    Joe,

Good question, but you'll have to wait as each surprise is added.
