Cool! I hadn't realized that the Columbus & Greenville was now a G&W property.

Does the C&G still have a spur into MSU? Bully's image on C&G 8715 pays homage to the school that absorbed substantial funds educating my son.

As an aside, a long retired MSU graduate, a close friend, told me that during his 1920/30-ish years at MSU he used the C&G station on the MSU campus. I believe my son showed me a white wooden building, though totally repurposed.

While I have not done any railfanning in the Starkville area, I do know the line is still active through there. Funny thing was seeing "Bully" where I did because that section of the C&G is completely separated from the section where Columbus and Starkville are.

Grab shot yesterday morning of CSX L624 awaiting departure from Columbia, SC. It's a turn, and will be back in the evening after serving industries along a former ACL line to the east. The 4529 is an SD-70MAC.

After eating a BBQ lunch provided by the UP in Flatonia, Texas, the gang is milling about waiting for the train to pull forward in order to board everyone and head back to Houston along the Sunset Route. Safety Awareness Special on November 17, 2006.

From April 1980 at Des Plaines, IL, torpedo-tubed GP-9 554 handles a local. I've seen photos of these hauling Soo passenger trains, so I'm assuming it once had a steam generator.

I cannot recall why I didn't walk over to get a better picture. :(

Looks like it still has the steam vent at the top of the long hood.

...or is that just the sand filler hatch?

Steam generator would have been in the short hood. :)

So are these simply being stored, no specific purpose ahead? Were to be part of tourist/diner train operation, which failed? Or....?

Yes, that SOO scheme sure was an attention-getter even if you weren't looking for it.

Was the track in between removed, or is it being held as "out-of-service"? Hopefully the latter, and maybe some day.....?

Don't you just hate it when a traction motor falls off your locomotive?
