In a way, I think I like the way the town used to appear. It doesn't look bad today but maybe I can just somehow relate to the old appearance.
The old view has a certain quaint charm. Hoping to swing into town real quick next month, while checking out a bit of MRL.
They seem to be a front for a soda pop speakeasy... even have the local law enforcement well lubricated too. Nice scene.
Yup. Even though they had changed from Mobil to Mobilgas, when I first pumped gas in '59, we still had the old Pegasus oil cans, etc. I still have these souvenirs from sixty plus years ago:
I was a lubricants buyer for many years in my career. Years ago, our ExxonMobil salesperson gave me a Mobil1 ballcap that features Pegasus on the back. Glad to see that the icon remains in use.
I was thinking it would be fun to have that other Dodge--the one behind the LeMans. Show these millennials what five feet of shoulder and hip room feels like!
Like my '69 Newport... when I came near a bus stop, people started looking for their change... Man, I had fun with that beast.
Yes. I was right smack in the middle of this era. We could often get TEN gallons for TWO BUCKS. Great days of big Holley double pumpers. Cars which easily made big horses, naturally aspirated. Without needing fancy, expensive computer controlled systems. This was right before the Feds stepped in and forced oil companies to change how the process worked. And caused so many stations to be closed in the early 1970's.
Double pumpers, dual quads, Six Packs and big blocks with more than 400 CI displacement.... Born too late, but I certainly appreciate the muscle era.
